L A M P Winners Announced for 2018 Annual International Lighting Design Competition

Vancouver, Canada

L A M P (Lighting Architecture Movement Project)

Gala event shines a light on international designers September 18

Vancouver, Canada, 18-09-2018 -

Celebrating its fifth annual event, L A M P has announced its 2018 international lighting design winners and will present the awards on Tuesday, September 18 in Vancouver, Canada. The gala event honours the best in established, emerging and student designers from around the globe and kicks off the Offsite Programming for IDS Vancouver.

BALANCE was a clever subject and we were very impressed by the diversity of lights,” says Ingo Maurer. “LED is certainly a big improvement in our daily technical life, but it is very important not to miss the following element of light: The essence of light. Congratulations to the winners. Keep on going and think of the light that pleases its core and our souls!”

This year’s first-place winners and runners-up in each category are:

  • Established

    • First place - Mito by Tom Fereday and Rakumba Lighting from Melbourne, Australia

    • Runner-up - Boom by Stickbulb/RUX Studios from New York City, USA

  • Emerging

    • First place - Highwire by Anony Studio from Toronto, ON, Canada

    • Runner-up - Bolla by Giulia Liverani for OliveLab from Turin, Italy

  • Student

    • First place - Driftwood by Nathan Sui from Mississauga, ON, Canada

    • Runner-up - Arch by Noah Howells from Boone, North Carolina, USA

The first place student winner will receive a $500 Award & Professional Internship/Mentorship with ANDLIGHT, the emerging winner will receive the $1,000 Light Resource Award, and the established winner will receive Inform Interiors $2,000 Grand Prize Award.

This year’s exhibit will feature 20 original jury-selected lighting entries from around the world, including L A M P’s 2018’s lighting winners. L A M P’s gala event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. PST at Inform Contract, 405 Railway Street, Vancouver, BC, V6A 1A7, Canada. The L A M P exhibit will also be on display from Sept. 19 to 21 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. PST.

CONCEPT: Driftwood is inspired by pristine scenery within nature. It emulates a piece of wood floating on a calm lake, barely breaking the surface and floating without disturbances. The warm diffused light mimics the refraction of light within water, bouncing off the rocky shore and illuminating the floating wood. It is both literally and figuratively “balanced”, as the wooden disc is suspended in the air as if floating on water. The ambient lighting from Driftwood provides the room with a warm, comforting atmosphere. - Crédit photo : LAMP
