Annual European Product Design Award exists to recognize the the efforts of talented international product designers who aim to improve our daily lives with practical, well thought out creations.
The first ePDA will be judged by some of the brightest product designers, journalists, and creative minds in the industry. “Even though ePDA is a European award, it welcomes submissions from around the globe. This international spirit is also embraced through our cross-continental jury panel,” said Hossein Farmani - the founder of European Product Design Award.
There are over 20 main categories to choose from that reflect the diversity of industrial design. ePDA jury will judge entries based on their overall design, functionality, innovation, and other criteria.
ePDA is proud to present 5 jury members who will participate in the first judging session of ePDA:
Bart Ruijpers
VP of Design and Branding at EOS products.
After 11 years as director of industrial design at Karim Rashid's studio in New York, Bart recently took on a new position at EOS to create and implement a design vision for everything that's EOS. Having graduated with a Master's degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in his home country of the Netherlands, Bart joined Karim's team in 2005. He worked to become the lead of the industrial design department of Karim's studio in New York, spearheading a wide range of award-winning design collaborations with clients from all over the world.
Christiane Bausback
Christiane Bausback is Head of Design and Managing Director of N+P Industrial Design. Together with her international team, she strives for innovation, visions and high-quality results, supporting customers from around the world from the initial idea until the market launch.
Since 1970 N+P has been designing high-tech products for public transportation, professional electronics and high-end consumer products, medical equipment and rehabilitation, as well as graphic, interaction and service solutions. Our goal is to constantly question established norms, design products that surpass the user’s expectations and perfectly meet the manufacturing and distribution requirements – developing new concepts and shaping visions.
Parallel to her professional activities, she is also lecturing mainly in Germany and Switzerland. Many of her designs have received numerous national and international design awards.
Lawrence Abrahamson
Lawrence Abrahamson is a Design Director at IDEO NY who brings 20 years of professional experience working on interdisciplinary teams in international contexts. From home bases in Singapore, Washington, DC, Portland, OR, Chicago, and New York, Lawrence has collaborated on a variety of retail, brand, healthcare, and workplace projects.
An environments and service designer, Lawrence explores the boundaries of space, art, and experience. He loves to be surprised and delighted by the sheer creativity of the human race and is a staunch advocate for the end-user. His passion for observing different cultures provides him the ability to see the world with new eyes. As a Visiting Researcher at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, he investigated an Asian perception of space and how these cultural elements can inspire experience and service design everywhere.
Oscar Peña
Co-Principal of Studioilse
Oscar Peña’s career has spanned a number of continents and design disciplines, with extensive commercial expertise and experience within product design. As Co-Principal of Studioilse Oscar now develops the product arm of Studioilse. Prior to joining Studioilse, he worked at Philips Design for 25 years, latterly as Global Creative Director for Lighting. As head of the Man and Activity department at the Design Academy, Eindhoven Oscar inspires students to look for ways to improve those products and services that have brought us to where we are today.
Alicia Graham
Co-Founder and Principal at Big Tomorrow, an experience design firm that solves complex human, business, and technology challenges. Focused on creating connected, personal, seamless, and adaptive products and services, she helps partners share knowledge, improve health, and inspire imagination by building experiences that empower people to live their best lives.
With more than 15 years of experience, Alicia is a proven leader in building sustainable innovation practices that bring groundbreaking products and services to market. Her diverse list of clients spans Disney, DARPA, Stanford Hospital & Clinics, University of Texas and Sound United – receiving numerous awards, including Fast Company Innovation by Design, IDSA Service Design and CES Innovations Design and Engineering. As a former economist, marketer, and product manager, she bridges the gaps between users, data, design and development.
The winners and honorees of ePDA will be announced on April 12, 2017, at the gala reception at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
Both aspiring and established design companies have until Tuesday, February 28, 2017 to submit entries for the judging by ePDA jury panel.
