Last chance for public to cast vote on World’s best building announced at WAF 2011

Barcelone, Espagne, 23-10-2011 - Architecture and design enthusiasts have just three days left to vote for their favourite building in the OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award, which will be announced at this year’s World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2011 in Barcelona, from 2nd to 4th November.The introduction of the OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award, which is being supported by OpenBuildings.com, is a new addition to WAF 2011. The OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award provides an opportunity for the public with a keen interest in architecture to pick their favourite building among the 281 projects that have been shortlisted for the world’s biggest architectural competition the WAF Awards 2011.

A theatre made of straw in Estonia, a soccer school in Soweto, a tree hotel in Sweden, a bamboo office in India and a moving gallery in New York are just some of the wide ranging projects to choose from that provide a showcase of current global architecture trends.

The OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award is the first major award where the public and not just industry insiders vote for the building they think deserves to win. The public can compare their choices to the opinions of some of the world’s most regarded architects, who will be deciding the prestigious WAF Award winners, while they determine the winner of OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award.

To view the shortlisted projects, cast your vote and provide comments, visit: openbuildings.com. Votes can be cast by selecting the Facebook ‘like’ icon on the project page or by downloading the OpenBuilding mobile app from iTunes. The five commentators who leave the most insightful posts will be awarded with FREE passes to attend WAF.

The closing date for casting votes in the OpenBuildings People’s Choice Award is October 28, 2011, when the top three projects with the most votes will go head to head at WAF, where voting to decide an overall winner will continue until they are lived at the WAF Awards’ ceremony.

About WAF:
World Architecture Festival (WAF), the world’s largest, live, inclusive and interactive global architecture event. It is a key event in the global architectural calendar and has attracted more than 5,000 delegates from around the world since the inaugural event in 2008.

Visitors to the Festival can enjoy a packed programme of presentations, seminars, exhibitions, and keynote addresses from international participants and leading industry figures.

A key part of the Festival is the WAF Awards, the largest architectural awards programme in the world. Past entrants have ranged from renowned global architectural firms such as Foster + Partners and Zaha Hadid Architects to small practices (unknown outside their own country).

The WAF Awards are divided into three main sections: Completed Buildings, Structural Design, and Future Projects (for designs in progress).
