INSIDE World Festival of Interiors Announces Day One Winners from RAI Amsterdam

INSIDE World Festival of Interiors

Greater London, Royaume-Uni, 05-12-2019 -  INSIDE World Festival of Interiors has today announced the best interior designs of 2019 across the categories of Health and Education, Offices and Retail. The annual awards, which started today at RAI Amsterdam, encompass the best interior designs from the past 12 months from around the globe. The three category winners announced today are:

Health and Education
Winner: Classroom Makeover for the Blind (Pattaya, Thailand) by Creative Crews. Judges commented that “every element (in the design) is purely aligned, essential and thoughtfully considered. Despite a tiny budget, the designers have created a project with a real social conscience”. The school enrols pupils with varying degrees of visual impairment and abilities, therefore the facilities needed to be flexible. The main aim of the building programme was to equip all students with fundamental skills for their future livelihoods beyond the school’s gate.

Offices
Winner: B:Hive, Smales Farm (Auckland, New Zealand) by BVN in association with Jasmax. The winner was ‘unanimously agreed’ between judges as an exemplary example of a sustainable and flexible workspace, where the ‘needs of the users inform the architecture’. The office is packed with state of the art facilities, amenities and technology all designed to deliver an environment that empowers and helps to grow regional businesses.

Retail

Winner: Aesop Bondi Junction Signature Store (Syndey, Australia) by mlkk Studio. Judges commented that the design offered a “sophisticated” and “informed” design solution. The store design intended to retain the construction framework as incomplete and exposed the raw pine structure surface in order to celebrate the beauty of incompleteness. The entire shop front is formed purely by the exposed pine stud framing and glazing and stimulates explorations of several other materials to enhance this concept. Atelier tao+c was also highly commended for their design of the JHW Store in Zhengzhou, China.

The three category winners were announced at the end of day one at INSIDE – World Festival of Interiors and will be followed by a further six category winners tomorrow. The nine category winners will then go head-to-head on the final day of the event this Friday to be named World Interior of the Year 2019.

As well as the INSIDE Awards programme, visitors to the festival are able to experience an in-depth talks programme exploring this year’s theme of ‘Flow’, exploring themes such as the flow of ideas, data and time. The speaking programme features international interior designers including Petra Blaisse, Founding Partner and Lead Designer at Inside Outside, Nigel Coates, architect, author and designer and Eva Frach I Gilabert, Director of the Architectural Association.
