Conde House, a global furniture company which blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with 21st-century advanced technology to deliver contemporary pieces with outstanding quality, functionality and style, is celebrating its 50^th anniversary this year.

The company was founded in 1968 by Minoru Nagahara. In the early 1960s Asahikawa City sent him to West Germany to study furniture making and design. Mr. Nagahara returned to Asahikawa in 1966 and two years later started Conde House. That beautiful city is still the worldwide headquarters for the company.

Conde House has worked with internationally recognized designers from around the world for over 30 years. This approach, coupled with traditional Japanese craftsmanship, has resulted in modern furniture designed to be comfortable, practical and style trend transcendent. The company’s design ethos includes using cutting-edge technology with sustainable, innovative materials to produce simple, yet elegant, products.

Conde House was founded on the principal of maintaining a peaceful coexistence with nature. “While we take pride in our craftmanship and make furniture pieces that are simple and functional, I think we also have an obligation to maintain our environment as we depend on the resources and services it provides,” said Yuki Watanabe, president of Conde House USA and chairman of Conde House Japan. Once a year, the entire factory team plants new trees to give back to the Earth what has been taken.

Although headquartered in Japan, Conde House has a showroom at the San Francisco Design Center. Visitors can experience their unique products firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the impact such furniture can have on a room.
