San Francisco Design Week
'POWER' Theme Leads Conversations, Workshops, and Virtual Tours June 7 - 13, 2021
SFDW invites the design community to reconsider the way we think about power and how, by questioning existing institutions, we can use our collective abilities to help distribute and delegate power with equitable intentions.
Discussions about societal change, and the role of designers in leading the charge, will be at the forefront of many SFDW events. Highlights include talks, webinars, web conferences, and virtual tours with leading designers in multi-disciplines, from user experience, interactive design, VR Experiences, and Virtual Art to branding, architecture, interior design, and fashion.
Most events require an All-Access Pass, $39.99 unless otherwise stated:

HOW TO DESIGN FOR EMOJI INCLUSIVITY
Thursday, June 10, 2 PM PDT
Emojis aren’t just fun — they’re changing the way we communicate. As designers, creators and communicators, we all play a role in expressing ourselves using emojis. In a recent study commissioned by Adobe, 83% of global emoji users agree that emoji should offer a more inclusive representation of users. 76% agree that emojis are an important communication tool for creating unity, respect, and understanding of one another. This panel will discuss the importance of this study and the impact emoji inclusivity can have on designers.
Panelists:
Jenny 8. Lee, Co-Founder, Emojination
Yiuying Lu, San Francisco Arts Commissioner & Adobe Global Creative Ambassador
Moderator: Paul D. Hunt, Adobe
In addition, San Francisco Design Week is excited to offer its attendees an exclusive free screening of the documentary titled “The Emoji Story.” This award-winning documentary is a one-of-a-kind film that gives a glimpse into the world of emoji and the brief history of the rapid rise of this new global language.
THE REINVENTION OF ILLUSTRATION WITH ERIC SNOWDEN, VP OF DESIGN AT ADOBE
Tuesday, June 8, 4 pm PDT
According to Adobe’s recent survey, 82% of creatives believe that 2020 forever changed how they create. As a result, UX designers are looking for ways to be more creative than ever while working more efficiently. For Adobe change happened by taking a 30-year-old tool – Adobe Illustrator – and modernizing it for new platforms, including the iPad. With the introduction of Illustrator on the iPad, creatives have the freedom to create inspiration anytime, anywhere, with anyone. In this session, hear from Adobe’s Vice President of Design Eric Snowden who led the team behind this effort as he shares a behind-the-scenes look at how this was done and why it gives creatives the opportunity to push the boundaries of UX design.

Have fun designing your very own hero emblem while reflecting on the motivations, beliefs, and powers that you bring to bear. Share in a moment of community with a league of fellow heroes as you hear their stories and share your own. This workshop will include a light presentation mixed with individual drawing/writing exercises and closing with small group discussion.
