SIDEX, a manufacturer-retailer of genuine wood siding, is proud to announce the 12 finalists of the first edition of the SIDEXPLOIT 2025 competition—an initiative designed to highlight Quebec projects that stand out through thoughtful design, sustainable wood integration, and exceptional architectural expression.
These finalist projects showcase the richness of Quebec design, the mastery of natural materials, and the remarkable potential of genuine wood as a vector of identity, performance, and durability.
Résidence Mainguy – Atelier FILZ
Built in 1960, the residence has been carefully redesigned to modernize its spaces while respecting its original mid-century spirit. The expansion adopts a sensitive approach, preserving the architectural character while meeting contemporary needs.
De la Montagne Noire – LÖNN architecture et design
This project reimagines the family chalet by blending authenticity, elegance, and conviviality. A warm, renewed space where memory, modernity, and serenity coexist harmoniously.
Résidence Blais-Monfette – UrbanÉco
Designed entirely in continuity with its environment, the residence highlights wood as its signature material. Its varied volumes naturally blend into the forest, expressing architecture that is high-performing, durable, and organically integrated into the site.
Entre Lac et Forêt – LOCUS architecture + design
Minimalist and cohesive, the project stands out for its natural harmony between interior and exterior. Materials and light create a fluid transition, resulting in a pure composition where authenticity and durability meet.
Théâtre de la Dame de Cœur – in situ atelier d'architecture
Located on a heritage agricultural site, the new facilities continue the architectural language of the 19th-century buildings. The use of genuine wood reinforces the connection to the place and highlights the history and creativity that define the Theatre’s site.
Résidence de la Clairière – Ensemble architecture
This project is distinguished by its perfectly considered use of wood, whose naturally greying tone blends seamlessly with the landscape. An architecture where warmth, modernity, and clarity of volumes come together with elegance.
Clinique dentaire des Cimes – CARTA. architecte + designer
Set within the mountainous landscape of Val-David, the clinic is defined by its horizontal form and the vertical use of red cedar. A commercial project where performance, coherence, and durability unite to create a harmonious whole.
Projet Eastman – Construction Mathieu Brochu
Meticulously designed by the owner, the residence is characterized by the subtle integration of windows into the dark siding. This design choice creates strong visual unity and enhances the architectural sobriety of the project.
Résidence de l'Île – CORBO Génie conseil & Architecture
Located by the sea in a harsh climate, the residence draws inspiration from Scandinavian aesthetics to blend minimalism, warmth, and authenticity. The carefully selected cladding responds sensitively to the context while offering a timeless signature.
Résidence Laplante-Pavsek – Les Espaces PERSO
Through the choice of siding model and color, the residence integrates naturally into its landscape. The project highlights the richness of wood’s nuances and the visual unity of the property.
Le 155 – Magalex Construction
A project where genuine wood is central to the architectural approach. The cladding connects volumes, light, and materials to create a coherent, balanced, and timeless composition.
Le 6400 – Magalex Construction
Here, wood—used as a structuring element—becomes an architectural language in itself. The project stands out for its strong material expression, revealing the residence’s personality and the desired balance between modernity and nature.
By bringing together these 12 finalist projects, SIDEX aims to shine a light on the creativity, rigor, and expertise that shape Quebec architecture. Each of these projects demonstrates the remarkable potential of genuine wood and its role in creating sustainable, inspiring spaces rooted in their surroundings.
The winner will be announced in December 2025.
