Casa Cardona
Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana
Designed for three generations, a 165 m² residence in San Luis Potosí transforms the conditions of a conventional real estate development into an architectural response sensitive to territory, family life, and desert light.
Architecture studio Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana (SDM) presents Casa Cardona, its latest single-family residential project in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Initially conceived as a conventional 165 m² real estate development, the residence demonstrates how an architectural proposal can transcend commercial parameters to create spatial, cultural, and human value. Its architecture establishes an intimate dialogue with the desert, transforming the conditions of its surroundings into a distinctive domestic experience.
Designed to accommodate three generations—a mother, her young son, and the grandmother—the house responds to its inhabitants’ differing needs for togetherness, privacy, and change. In the geography of the Potosí Highlands, marked by intense solar exposure, the architecture prioritizes mass over void. Its solid, mineral-like exterior protects interior spaces from the harsh climate, while natural light, shadows, and spatial transitions create an atmosphere of serenity and shelter.
A Material and Territorial Response to the High-Altitude Desert
The identity of the residence stems from its sensitive connection to the arid ecosystem of San Luis Potosí:
• Monolithic Presence & Latticework: The house acts as a protective shield, integrating delicate latticework that evokes the density of local desert vegetation. These elements filter and soften intense sunlight, creating privacy and a controlled relationship between interior and exterior.
• Dynamic Color & Symbolic Pigments: The facade is finished in a deep pink hue with wine and violet undertones—a tribute to the fleeting blooms of endemic desert plants and prickly pears. As grazing sunlight shifts throughout the day, the exterior evolves from vibrant pink to deep wine and rich purple, turning the building into a living canvas.
• Austere Luxury: Drawing on essential elements—light, wind, stone, earth, and shade—the design creates a contemplative refuge where silence, intimacy, and simplicity acquire exceptional value. It is a conception of luxury that privileges the experience of inhabiting space over ostentation.
“We wanted to freeze a temporal gesture rooted in the Mexican desert—the ephemeral color of an arid landscape that resists with dignity, strength, and beauty,” says Sergio Padilla, Director of Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana. “Here, architecture ceases to be a static object and becomes an experience. Sunlight acts as an active medium, physically and symbolically animating the fleeting nature of color in the desert.”

About Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana
Founded in 2013 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana (SDM) has developed an architectural practice whose identity emerges from the relationship between territory, nature, geography, and culture. The Potosí Highlands have shaped a way of thinking in which the landscape becomes a teacher: scarcity stimulates creativity, silence heightens perception, and local resources take on essential value. The studio favors locally sourced materials and artisanal processes, drawing on the knowledge and skill of Mexican craftspeople.
Its practice extends to architecture, furniture design, landscape, and contemporary art curation through Aether Gallery. With a body of work recognized through international awards and specialist publications, SDM develops architecture that avoids repetitive formulas and finds in each context an opportunity for exploration. Beyond a regional aesthetic, the studio proposes a methodology of observing and interpreting territory, capable of establishing a dialogue between local identity and contemporary thought across different geographies.
