The search for the best interiors began in June 2019 and led to 1,076 submissions from all over the world for the third edition of the Frame Awards. Now after three weeks of deliberating, the long list of projects is announced. From this point on, an international jury of renowned industry leaders will select the nominees. The shortlist of nominees will be announced on 12 December 2019.
‘Making the first selection of projects submitted to the Frame Awards is exciting as well as challenging. It’s fantastic to see the wealth of interiors that designers, makers and clients have collaborated on. Unfortunately, we’ve had to disappoint many submitters who didn’t make it to the longlist. We are working on ways to honour them, too.’ – Robert Thiemann, Founder of Frame Publishers
36 categories honouring the world’s best interiors
The Spatial, Executional and Societal Awards cover the entire spectrum of interiors, with the Honorary Awards celebrate the people behind them. The Spatial Awards recognize interior projects in Retail, Hospitality, Work, Residences, Shows and Institutions. The Executional Awards commend interior design elements such as material, craftsmanship and colour, while the Societal Awards celebrate positive social and environmental impact.
From courthouses to coworking and beyond
Frame aims to represent a wide cross-section of designs within our initial selection. Among longlisted projects are renown firms like Sevil Peach Architecture+Design, Conran&Partners, Woods Bagot, Gensler, Mecanoo and Schemata Architects, as well as emerging studios like Daylab Studio, Masquespacio, StudioXAG and Mur Mur Lab; with work created for brands like Adidas, ASICS, Freitag, Selfridges, Spaces, Muuto, Moncler and Kvadrat. The entries cover a plethora of typologies from train stations to tea rooms, coworking spaces to musical set designs and beyond.
Future facing concepts with an international outlook
Selected from over 1,076 submissions, the Frame Awards 2020 longlisted projects reveal a new era of design with notable themes that place tech companies at the forefront for progressive, integrated workspaces. Experiential designs in the retail, shows and executional categories represent a shift to the so-called ‘millennial mindset’ advancing immersive experiences and innovation in spatial design.

An international jury of industry leaders
The Frame Awards values diversity in design disciplines and in personal perspectives. Each Awards category has a separate international jury comprising designers, manufacturers and clients. This means that the best work will be chosen by all industry stakeholders, not just by other designers: retail brands, hospitality providers, cultural institutions, and educators. Jury members include Marsha Meredith (Aesop Creative Director), Ivy Ross (Google Hardware Design Vice President), Herbert Schilthuis (Heineken Global Director Health), Kave Pour (SPACE10 Co-founder & Managing Director) and Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid Architects Principal) among other leaders in their field.
Frame Awards programme and ceremony
The Frame Awards culminates with the live judging and Awards Show on 19 and 20 February 2020. The Frame Awards day programme is a two-day event showcasing the future of spaces through a blend of talks, exhibitions, workshops, trend briefings, brand experiences and panel discussions. The Awards Show includes the announcement of the winners, speeches, a grand dinner and after party with selected jury members, VIPs, and press in attendance.
