A year after its revival by Florim, this marks another award for the brand, even with success at NYCxDESIGN Prize (ICFF) and Hospitality Design Awards. The product "Castle" of the collection "Stories", designed by Giorgia Zanellato & Daniele Borlotto, won the "Red Dot Award: Best of the Best" in the "Product Design 2017" category, one of the first, most historic international awards for design.
With the "Stories" collection, the young designers from Studio Zanellato Borlotto draw a sequence of visions inspired by the plot of several plastered walls, selected according to the different degree of wear and exposure to corrosive elements, dictated by the layering of substances which they are faithful to the time and tell the memories and reflections of a given environment. This collection perfectly captures the essence of CEDIT brand and defines the typical Italian home.
A year after its relaunch by Florim – at Fuorisalone 2016 – the brand continues to soar and confirms its strength as synonymous with design, as well as extremely high-end ceramic coverings.
“Exactly a year ago, in the heart of Milan we informed the international public of the rebirth of CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia, a mission Florim has pursued with determination and passion, with the aim of enabling ceramics to serve art and design. The brand's relaunch," Stefano Torrenti, Florim Ceramiche CEO states, "has been based on a cultural project that aims to merge outstanding craftsmanship, technological innovation and Italian genius, to transform ceramic coverings into an authentic interior design work, pushing back the boundaries for the entire industry. We are particularly proud of the top awards CEDIT has won at the international level ever since its relaunch, because they support our efforts and encourage us to continue along the path we have marked out for ourselves, now joined on our journey by Formafantasma and Martino Gamper”.
Synonymous with material experimentation and stylistic research in the field of ceramics for over fifty years, CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia is returning to the forefront of the industry with high-end products originating from partnerships with some of Italy's most inspiring contemporary creative minds. Of the six collections launched in 2016, “Storie” is the work of the young designers Giorgia Zanellato & Daniele Bortotto | Studio Zanellato Bortotto: the series recreates the effects of wear and layering to evoke the theme of the relentless passing of time on the surface of a ceramic covering.

The Storie ceramics collection is in line with a design method that investigates space-time relationships and identifies the signs of history in the hidden recesses of the familiar places where daily life is lived. For CEDIT, Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto present the Storie collection, comprising six different sets of wall coverings, inscribed by the young designers with the theme of the relentless passage of time. The duo explored Italy’s architectural landscape - its interiors and its nostalgic contrasts - of stately homes, villas and aristocratic palaces, farmhouses and old factories, and the environmental surroundings of a distinctively Italian manufacturing past, to source their repertoire of images and their inspiration for conveying a distinctively Italian mood.
Looking at the changes brought about by time, the designers undertake a journey of exploration and interpretation of the gradients of colour, shade, texture and consistency of large portions of plastered wall. “Technological innovation enables us to reproduce on large-sized ceramic materials all the effects of wear and stratification that normally only time is able to create”.
Zanellato and Bortotto have selected five different environments, located in precise contexts and areas, and identified a specific effect caused by the ageing
process in each of them - the faded fresco on the wall of a villa, the damp found on plain or decorative plasterwork or the form of rust stains on walls. To apply an emotional synecdoche, the wall becomes a metaphor for experience, the “skin” which accumulates and reveals the passing of the years, the surface on which time itself is deposited. The walls of a room are the surfaces on which the moods, moments and stories it has contained are deposited, transforming their appearance and leaving
visual records of the unique events of which they are the silent custodians.
The unique nature of these moments and events is translated into ceramics, for centuries an art form produced only by craftsmen, a material which can be moulded to create original, unrepeatable panels even in large sizes. The slabs, designed for covering indoor and in some cases outdoor walls, contain stunning pigments and colour variations, the memory of an illustrious past and custodians of antique, vanishing traditions and knowledge.
