Press Kit | no. 2506-12
With a keen sense for materials, colors, and textures, Sebastian Herkner combines new technologies and traditional craftsmanship in his award-winning designs. His goal is to highlight the beauty of the material and draw attention to subtle details.
For him, MICRO means focusing, zooming in, discovering. The deliberately simple look of the basic tiles is given subtle visual elegance by three classic designs: lined, checked, and chequerboard – "Lines", "Mesh", and "Square". It is, so to speak, graphic haute couture that reveals exciting details at second glance, like pinstripes in a woolen fabric. The surfaces evoke everyday objects that appear familiar on closer inspection. From a distance, the delicate patterns blend into the background, but up close they are reminiscent of textile fabrics.
The austerity of the fine geometry is gently broken by the natural character of the basic look, creating a surprisingly "soft" impression. The result is a convincingly homely tile collection that is ideal for use in entrance areas, kitchens, and bathrooms. It is a timeless design that creates inviting spaces where you feel at home - in private homes, but also in bistros, cafés, and restaurants.
Naturally cozy
The color range of the seven basic tiles in muted, light, and medium mixed shades includes warm beige and brown tones, neutral grey tones with a low color content, and the extra dark shade Lava.
Each basic color is assigned an accent color in which the different patterns are printed. The larger their proportion of the surface, the more intense the color impression: while the parallel lines in the Lines decorative element stand out gently from the background, the contrast is enhanced by the chequered pattern in Mesh, and intensified further in the gently shimmering Square checkerboard look. A subtle play with color.
MICRO also promises a feel-good factor in terms of formats: floor tiles in 5, 15, 30, and 60 x 60 cm, and the generous 60 x 120 cm format can be used to suit a variety of room situations. Stair tiles in two formats, skirting boards and a 5 x 5 cm mosaic, complete the portfolio.
The decorative tiles all measure 60 x 60 cm. A highlight is the matching 10 x 60 cm coving skirting board, which provides a clean transition from wall to floor in the truest sense of the word: the aesthetic moulding is not only particularly attractive to look at, but also very easy to clean.
Playing with patterns
MICRO thrives on visual and tactile effects, is versatile, and can be combined in playful ways. It sets timeless but sophisticated accents instead of following short-lived interior design trends – that is the credo of the series. The linear design fits perfectly into modern floor plans and highlights different areas of use in an unobtrusive way without being overly fashionable.
"Everything fits together with MICRO: a timeless, understated design in durable, high-quality ceramic," says Sebastian Herkner.
It's a portfolio that opens up a wide range of creative possibilities, while at the same time ensuring design continuity throughout the home and giving builders the security of timeless, economical fittings. Not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also in terms of functionality: ceramic is robust, durable, and one of the most sustainable building materials available.
Sebastian Herkner is one of the most sought-after German designers internationally. He primarily creates furniture, lighting, and home accessories for brands such as Thonet, Ligne Roset, and Fritz Hansen. MICRO is the second design to be created in collaboration with Sebastian Herkner, following the innovative "Grid" surface from the Area Pro series by Agrob Buchtal.
