Tai Kwun Chairs
ARTA Architects
The use of different coloured sustainable wood creates a gradient pattern that perfectly balances the need for an iconic design, while co-existing in harmony within its surroundings.
A bespoke locking system ensures that each chair can be easily installed and removed to ensure ultimate flexibility in seating arrangements to suit large scale performances, small group gatherings, and for passers-by looking for a moment of solitude.
Each chair is designed to be easily stackable to become an impromptu art work, as well as to ensure that they can be stored in a space-saving and efficient manner.

About ARTA Architects
ARTA, a fusion of art and architecture, delves into the experiential qualities of art alongside architectural forms and functions. Established in 2021, ARTA Architects has significantly influenced Hong Kong's public spaces, completing over 30 interventions that invite community engagement and creativity.
Their inaugural furniture piece, Social Ring, is an innovative urban intervention designed to promote social interaction, while adhering to social distancing guidelines. This piece exemplifies ARTA's dedication to fostering connections through thoughtful, functional design. Their second creation, the Tai Kwun Chairs, won the “Furniture of the Year” award at the 2024 FRAME Awards. These chairs celebrate Tai Kwun, a site that harmoniously blends history with the modern architecture of Herzog & de Meuron. Their ergonomic form features a unique locking system for easy setup and storage, turning the Laundry Steps into a lively venue for events.
Sustainability and education are core to ARTA's mission, showcased through their use of recycled materials and partnerships with NGOs to engage diverse communities in the design process. Recognized locally and internationally, ARTA has exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and received numerous accolades. Upcoming projects include a 20,000sq.m. promenade and various architectural installations.
