Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning is proud to announce that South Bow’s new Calgary headquarters has received two major accolades this year: 'Best of Region: Canada' at the 2025 Shaw Contract Design Awards and 'Project of the Year' at the 2025 CREW Calgary Awards.
Designed for South Bow, a newly established critical energy infrastructure company emerging from its former corporate parent, the project marks a milestone in the company’s journey towards independence. With no pre-existing brand standards or culture, the workplace became the foundation for South Bow’s evolving identity — a space to foster innovation, collaboration, and belonging.
Spanning four floors of Calgary’s Manulife Tower, the project was completed on a fast-tracked eight-month schedule from award to occupancy through close collaboration between Kasian, South Bow’s internal team, and construction managers Govan Brown. The resulting environment is warm, refined, and human-centred, balancing hospitality influences with a mid century modern sensibility.
The design integrates curved glazed walls, natural wood finishes, and dual-tone concrete flooring that echo the tower’s architecture while softening its geometry. Workspaces are organized into neighbourhoods to accommodate diverse work styles, anchored by a bright central gathering hub that serves as the social and creative heart of the office. Dedicated wellness and prayer rooms further demonstrate the project’s inclusive, people- focused approach.
“Collaborating with Kasian in designing and building our office space was a journey of excitement, creativity, innovation, and quality," said Julie Popescu, Executive Assistant to President & CEO, South Bow. "As one of the leading design firms, Kasian came with extensive experience and a collaborative spirit that enabled us to bring our vision to life. During the design process, Kasian was always open to collaboration, welcoming feedback and making changes where necessary to ensure that the product met our satisfaction. This interaction produced a feeling of ownership and pride in our team. The final product was nothing short of amazing. Our new office space is a stunning combination of functionality and elegance, while creating an efficient collaborative work environment. Kasian's professionalism, creativity, and dedication to client satisfaction made them the ideal partner for this endeavor. We are pleased with our new office and grateful for Kasian's contribution to making it a reality.”
“Kasian’s dedication and expertise ensured that our best interests were always top of mind," said Wilson Chung, P.Eng. PMP, Integrated Program Office (IPO), South Bow. "We appreciate their outstanding commitment to securing fair treatment and pricing for South Bow.”
“I would strongly recommend working with Kasian, as they were efficient and took our 'vision' and created a design for the space that has turned out to be very effective and enjoyable," added Bevin Wirzba, President & CEO, South Bow. "I get feedback from our teams and guests, who visit the space, suggesting that it is very inviting and great place to work. We had an initial visioning session, and we aligned very quickly (in my view) with the principles of what we wanted to achieve. A great testament to the work is that there is little I would change now that I have been in the space for 4 months, and I keep finding elements of design that are thoughtful, and I didn't even appreciate them through the design process.”
The 2025 Shaw Contract Design Awards celebrate spaces that positively impact people and the planet, recognizing South Bow’s emphasis on inclusivity, accessibility, and employee wellbeing. The CREW Calgary Project of the Year honour further reinforces the project’s leadership in workplace design excellence and industry impact.
