URBANJOBS

ORIGAMI transforms a compact bakery at Tersane Istanbul into a layered space where pastry craft, materiality, and everyday ritual meet

Istanbul, Türkiye, 2026-03-25 -

ORIGAMI is conceived as a linear spatial sequence structured around display, production, and circulation. The project translates the logic of layering—intrinsic to the croissant—into an architectural system defined by repetition, depth, and sectional articulation.

The interior is organized along a strong longitudinal axis. Custom-designed shelving units form a continuous wall datum, integrating storage, display, and lighting within a single architectural element. These vertical frames operate as rhythmic structural bays, establishing order while allowing flexibility in product presentation. The shelving planes, illuminated from beneath, emphasize horizontality and create a stratified visual field that directly references the layered structure of laminated dough.

Material selection is deliberate and controlled. High-gloss, deep-toned ceramic tiles wrap the perimeter, producing a reflective, almost lacquered envelope that enhances depth and amplifies light. This darker shell is contrasted with mineral-textured surfaces and pale, patterned stone bases that ground the central island. The island itself is conceived as a monolithic volume—precise, edged, and elevated—functioning simultaneously as display, service counter, and spatial anchor.

The perforated ceiling system introduces a secondary layer of order. Its repetitive circular grid conceals technical infrastructure while reinforcing the project’s modular discipline. Integrated lighting is recessed and restrained, allowing the illuminated product shelves and vertical light panels to act as primary luminous elements within the space.

The seating zone is treated as an extension of the architectural palette, rather than as a separate environment. Compact wooden chairs and mineral-finished tables maintain material continuity, while the layout preserves a clear circulation corridor along the central axis. The result is a spatial hierarchy that prioritizes product visibility without compromising user comfort.

Detail resolution is fundamental to the project. Junctions between glass, metal, and timber are sharp and controlled; display vitrines are frameless where possible, minimizing visual noise. The architecture does not rely on decorative gestures. Instead, it constructs identity through proportion, repetition, and material precision.

ORIGAMI operates as a calibrated retail environment where architecture frames the product with clarity and restraint. The space is defined not by excess, but by discipline—an interior built through layers, alignment, and controlled contrast.

About URBANJOBS

Founded in 2018, URBANJOBS has received numerous internationally prestigious awards, including Architizer, German Design Awards, FX Awards, Maison Française Interior Awards, Elle Decoration, and the iF Design Award 2026 for a residential project, alongside many national accolades.

In 2025, URBANJOBS was awarded the Jury Special Mention for Best Young Interior Design Studio by the globally renowned Architizer, and was also named a finalist by Archello in the Interior Architecture Studio of the Year category. That same year, Esca—selected as Best Restaurant Project at the Maison Française Interior Awards—emerged as a strong reference for the studio’s design-driven approach to gastronomy spaces.

URBANJOBS approaches space not merely as form, but as a holistic experience shaped by materiality, texture, and light, completed through user interaction. Centered on the careful construction of atmosphere through sensory layers, this approach encompasses the design of every detail—from door handles to bespoke furniture—forming the studio’s distinctive spatial language.

In the words of URBANJOBS founder Murat Dede, “the true power and value of design lie in its ability to create an experience that activates our senses. Design is not merely about form; it is a proposition for how a space will be lived in, what it will make us feel, and how it will mature over time.”

Today, some of Istanbul’s most significant gastronomy venues have been realized through URBANJOBS’ designs. The studio’s portfolio also includes international brands such as world-renowned restaurateur Alan Yau, Italian food giant Obicà, luxury chocolate brand Butterfly, the iconic Johnnie Walker, and automotive leader Renault.

Beyond hospitality projects, URBANJOBS designs retail, residential, and office spaces for brands including Beymen, Getir, İş Bankası, Assembly Buildings, Kolektif House, Doğuş, and Nef, producing strong and distinctive spatial identities. With over 50,000 square meters of office design experience, the studio addresses all disciplines of interior architecture through a holistic approach, delivering large-scale projects across retail, luxury residential, and hospitality sectors.

URBANJOBS continues to expand its presence in the international luxury hospitality sector with a project designed for The Bodrum Edition, scheduled for realization in the summer of 2026. This project further reinforces the studio’s expertise in creating high-end hospitality spaces on a global scale and strengthens its international positioning.
