Montreal, Canada, 2012-11-07 -
The RIDM Lounge at the Cinémathèque québécoise will be the nerve centre of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM), November 7 to 18, with 13 festive events scheduled for the space. The RIDM Lounge is an experience in and of itself! The RIDM Lounge, at the Cinémathèque québécoise, is the festival’s hub for meeting friends, having a drink, or talking about the many films on the program.
For a second year, design company La Firme has created the space in collaboration with Baillat Cardell & Fils and XYZ Technologie culturelle. La Firme’s concept is built around rope and boxes. As well as symbolizing connection, rope marks paths and ties into the festival’s slogan: Where all stories meet. Where these paths cross, the ropes form a knot, helping organize movement and marking off the Cinémathèque’s different interior and exterior spaces, resulting in a breathtaking installation that includes a wrapped truck to be used for select screenings. The boxes reference the origins of cinema – the small box in which we suddenly saw the world spring into motion. Boxes also suggest gifts, surprises and discoveries, three concepts that resonate with the festival’s spirit.
From Opening night on November 7 (9:30 p.m., featuring DJ Brace) to closing night (with DJ Vincent Lemieux, starting at 9 p.m.), every festive evening will deliver a new thrill. Each event is free.
