The End of Time by Peter Mettler opens the 15th RIDM on Wednesday

With alternating psychotronic sequences and interviews, observation of nature and autobiography, The End of Time is a unique and unforgettable journey haunted by the spirits of Kubrick and Marker. This superbly filmed work forces us to question our own logical and sensorial relationship with the world.
Peter Mettler will be in Montreal to present his film, as will producer Ingrid Veninger. The invitation-only screening will take place at the Monument National at 7 p.m. A second screening, open to the general public, will be presented on November 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cinémathèque québécoise. The film is in English with French subtitles.
The opening of the 15th RIDM is also a festive occasion, with the screening to be followed by a gala opening party in the RIDM Lounge at the Cinémathèque québécoise, featuring the excellent DJ Brace. As the festival's beating heart, the place to meet people and have fun, this year's RIDM Lounge is more than a space, it's an art installation featuring a sensory experience designed by La Firme, Baillat Cardell et Fils and XYZ technologie culturelle.
The RIDM Lounge is also where the public will have the chance to hear Peter Mettler talk about his work, on November 9 at 7:30 p.m. He will discuss the adventure of making The End of Time and share his thoughts on the film’s place in his body of work. This gathering will be a unique opportunity to discuss the nature of images, the future of cinema and our own relationship with time. An outstanding director and cinematographer, and a key figure on the Canadian film scene, for 30 years Mettler has been creating works as aesthetically original as they are thematically ambitious.
Last but not least, fans of Mettler's work will have an exceptional opportunity to attend a special presentation of three of his experimental films, all previously unseen in North America, on November 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Centre PHI. Made as a tribute to the artist and scientist Andreas Zuest, the medium-length film Meteorologies is the product of an improvised performance given in Zurich in June 2012, combining projected images with a soundtrack by the master improvisational musician Fred Frith, resulting in a unique and unpredictable experience that unfolds as a dialogue between image and sound. The film will be preceded by Suitable for Framing #4 & 5, a pair of short pieces comprising images mixed by Mettler set to music by Gabriel Scotti and Vincent Hanni.
The 15th RIDM runs from November 7 to 18, 2012.
