Groupe Sensation Mode today launches, in collaboration with P&G Beauty, its new Collections segment, an innovative concept which will be held during the Fashion & Design Festival (FDF) August 20-23. For this first edition, world-famous blogger Garance Doré, an A List figure on the fashion scene, will act as Commissioner of FDFCollections to be presented at the prestigious Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), at the heart of the Quartier des spectacles.
Garance Doré, of French origin, is a blogger and photographer now established in New York. Her opinions and stance on fashion, amusing and incisive amalgam of images, videos and articles, have made her one of the most influential women in the world of fashion, according to magazines such as Forbes, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, Vogue and Elle France. She has collaborated with some of fashion’s biggest names, among them Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada, Chloé, Céline, Chopard, Tiffany & Co., Max Mara, Kate Spade and Moschino, and recently launched her namesake brand with a line of stationery and gifts.
As Commissioner of FDF Collections and given her external and international view on fashion, Garance Doré will select the fashion designers who will be invited to present their spring-summer 2015 collections in either runway, performance or installation format in the magnificent Beverley Webster Rolph Hall of the MAC.
From over a hundred Quebec designers in the Groupe Sensation Mode directory, Garance Doré will choose some twenty finalists and will meet with them in Montreal in June. These meetings will allow the selected designers to showcase their art to one of the most influential fashion authorities in the world. The Commissioner, having a full carte blanche, will then choose eight designers who will be invited to present their work, courtesy of Groupe Sensation Mode, within the framework of FDF Collections.
“I'm so excited, this is my first time in Montreal and I can't wait to discover and celebrate the creativity,” said Garance Doré.
“It is a true honour to be able to welcome Garance Doré, one of the most influential personalities in international fashion. Her external, objective and international experience will provide a captivating take on local design,” said Chantal Durivage, co-President of Groupe Sensation Mode.
“The editorial-based programming principle established by a Commissioner is an international current adopted by many events these days,” said Jean-François Daviau, co-President of Groupe Sensation Mode. “FDF Collections will prove to be a creative and intimate meeting place, which perfectly melds with the orientation and the growth of the Fashion & Design Festival.”
With the goal to provide an intimate feel, the audience will comprise media representatives and targeted consumers who are avid fashion and design enthusiasts. Programming details will be announced in the coming weeks.
The new segment will also include a series of conferences of international calibre, open to the public and hosted by Stéphane Le Duc. Among the guest speakers, the public will have the honor of hearing Garance Doré, Commissioner of FDF Collections, Nathalie Rykiel, international muse of elegance and Honorary President for the 2014 Fashion & Design Festival, and Thierry-Maxime Loriot, Exhibition Curator.
P&G Beauty, a long-term partner of Groupe Sensation Mode, made possible the establishment of FDF Collections. “We’ve developed a strong partnership with Sensation Mode over the years and we are delighted to continue to partner at the Fashion & Design Festival, said Melissa Karis, Communications Director for P&G Beauty in Canada. We cannot wait to see some of our great beauty brands, such as COVERGIRL, Pantene and Olay, shine on the FDF Collections runway.”
The Fashion & Design Festival also wishes to thank the Montréal Fashion Bureau and Lolli Communication for arranging the visit of Garance Doré and her team to Montreal.
The exterior segment of the FDF will take place for the first time this year at place des Festivals, a few steps from the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.
