Canadian lighting designer Saleem Khattak, owner of Archilume, is introducing a new configuration of energy-efficient LED chandeliers called the ‘P28’ at New York’s 27th annual ICFF trade show from May 16 to 19. Archilume’s booth will be located at booth #0884 (L1) at New York’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. www.icff.com
The new ‘P28’ chandelier offers a unique large-scale configuration option to create a focal piece in a space with increased dimming control. The chandelier composition is completely customizable and installed on site so each installation is unique. The dimming aspect of the luminaires now offer an increased dimming range down to 1%, which allows for greater control to set the ambiance created by the multiple cluster configurations.
Visually, the ‘P28’ luminaires take on a jewel like quality when observed in multiple cluster chandelier configurations. Similar to the rest of the Archilume collection, the ‘P28’ is versatile, providing endless creative options and offers custom order configurations for commercial and residential projects. The Archilume line also consists of the ‘P8’, which launched in 2014 and features linear and staggered horizontal configuration of lights, in addition to the pendant lights, ceiling chandeliers, and wall sconces.
With over 15 years of experience in lighting and product design, Saleem’s talent for design expands far beyond the lighting world. In December 2014, Saleem’s work took centre stage during the launch of Joel Berman Glass Studios’ largest glass art project to date for the new Hamad International Airport in Qatar.
While working as senior designer to Berman, Saleem developed patterns for the airports glass corridors that would reflect the geography and cultural history of the Qatar region. Drawing from the contemplative art of Islam, Saleem developed a contemporary interpretation of the decorative arabesque motifs that figured prominently in the region’s architectural history. Archilume’s glare-free luminaires are a revolution in the use of LED lighting due to the use of the total internal reflection (TIR) optical principle. The line can be purchased online, through Bang & Olufsen Yorkville (Toronto, Canada), and Inform Contract (Vancouver, Canada).
