Back for its 17th year, the Interior Design Show (IDS15) is proud to announce a celebrated roster of talent joining this year’s show, hand-picked from across the globe by its sleut team of trend hunters. The powerhouse speakers joining IDS15 will bring their notable experiences, insider knowledge and international perspectives to the Caesarstone Stage from January 23-25, 2015.
In addition to presenting the main stage, Caesarstone will return to the epicentre of IDS with another worldwide debut: its first collaboration with Philippe Malouin Studio. As part of its ongoing commitment to creating new platforms for design, Caesarstone has invited the Canadian-born, London-based designer to engage with its quartz surface materials, emphasizing their inherent qualities of strength, durability and design. The playful installation will contrast a minimalist and monolithic sculptural language with the idea of childhood memory and play.
AZURE Trade Talks
Sebastian Herkner joins the AZURE Trade Talks roster of speakers on Friday, January 23, 2015,
alongside International Guest of Honour, Wanda Jelmini, Creative Director, T&J Vestor for MissoniHome, supported by John Paul & Co. The rising German design star, presented by Avenue Road, will dazzle Canada’s top design professionals with stories of his product collaborations for an array of leading manufacturers, including Pulpo, ClassiCon Caesarstone, Very Wood, Moroso, Sancal, La Chance, Rosenthal and many more. His small-but-mighty design studio is known for its merging of cultural contexts and combining of new technologies with traditional craftsmanship. Avenue Road will also present a one-of-a-kind installation of Herkner’s portfolio on the show floor, with a space designed by
the wunderkind himself.
Arkansas-based architect and professor Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, of Marlon Blackwell Architects is the third and final speaker joining Herkner and Jelmini to inspire and educate Friday’s attending industry. Known from his work that steps outside the architectural mainstream on residential, commercial, institutional and urban projects, Blackwell’s designs
draw upon vernaculars and typologies and the contradictions of place. His boundary breaking
creations have received numerous national and international design awards including being named a United States Artists Ford Fellow 2014 and selected for the 2012 Architecture Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Blackwell’s work has also garnered significant publication in books, architectural journals and magazines, including “An Architecture of the Ozarks: The Works of Marlon Blackwell” published by Princeton Architectural Press.
