Toronto, Canada, 2016-12-15 -
Drawing in over 34,000 guests, Globe Style Saturday and House & Home Sunday will showcase some of the globe’s most talented design visionaries to celebrate the 2017 Interior Design Show. In addition to Amanda Nisbet, Nicky Haslam, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Heather Dubbeldam and Megan Torza, Canadian design specialists Lynda Reeves, Beth Hitchcock, Joel Bray, Tommy Smythe will also take the stage during the four-day design fair to share their iconic talent.
A master of colour, texture and patterns, Amanda Nisbet has established herself as a permanent fixture in North American design through her distinct approach to interiors. Nisbet thrives in balance, embracing the bold and blending it with elegance in every project she works on. Utilizing her formal art history training and experience at Christie’s auction house, she has been transforming projects throughout North America and Europe for 18 years, while simultaneously launching a lighting collection in partnership with The Urban Electric Company, a boutique rug collection with Studio Four and Kyle Bunting, as well as her own comprehensive furniture and lighting collection with Niermann Weeks. The author of “Dazzling Design”, Nisbet will join Globe Style Columnist Jeanne Beker for Globe Style Saturday on the Caesarstone stage to share her journey through design.
A household name for the likes of Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart, the undeniable gift of Nicholas Haslam is equal parts grand and glamorous as it is witty and unexpected. Britain's ultimate interior designer is distinguished by his combination of high-end design, bespoke furnishings and an ever-transforming style. In addition to a client list that spans from royalty to rock stars, the founder of NH Design also boasts an impressive portfolio of offices, restaurants, and events from every corner of the globe. Haslam’s artistic talent can also be viewed at the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as The Royal Institute of British Architects, which showcase his interior watercolour renderings. IDS17 is thrilled to announce that the socialite, fabric designer, literary editor and author of five books will be gracing the Caesarstone stage on Globe Style Saturday alongside Globe Style Editor Odessa Paloma Parker on January 21, 2017.
Martyn Lawrence Bullard, acclaimed designer to the stars, is no stranger to the spotlight. His attention to detail, trademark glamour and flare has appeared in over 4,000 publications worldwide, 70 coffee table books and popular television shows such as Million Dollar Decorators, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Entertainment Tonight. His A-list clientele includes Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner Ellen Pompeo, Tommy Hilfiger and the Osborne family, with an equally awe-inspiring list of commercial projects ranging from the Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs to the Château Gütsch in Switzerland. As the founder of Martyn Lawrence Bullard Design, Bullard has extended his talent to a collection of indoor and outdoor fabrics, wallpaper, furniture and home accessories available for purchase through his firm, in addition to collaborations with the venerable fabric house Schumacher, Ann Sacks, The Rug Company, Haviland Limoges, Christofle and Daum. For the last decade, his undeniable talent has placed him in Architectural Digest’s AD100 and he’s been a permanent feature on ELLE DECOR’s A-list of the world’s top tastemakers.
Canadian architectural icons, Heather Dubbeldam and Megan Torza will appear on stage with Globe and Mail Architecture Critic, Alex Bozikovic for Globe Style Saturday, as both women continue to take on larger than life projects that have propelled them to the top of the industry. Torza, a partner at DTAH, uses her strong personal interest in adaptive reuse and the integration of contemporary architecture into historic urban fabric – as seen in the development and implementation of the award-winning LEED certified Toronto hubs; Artscape Wychwood Barns and Evergreen Brickworks. Dubbeldam, founder of the multi-disciplinary firm DUBBELDAM Architecture + Design, is a firm believer in sustainable design. As the recipient of the 2013 RAIC Advocate for Architecture award and winner of 2016’s Canada Council for the Arts’ Professional Prix de Rome in Architecture, her commitment to advocacy can be seen at the local, regional, and national level.
Closing out the 19th consecutive conference, House & Home Sunday will invite some of Canada’s most notable design icons to share their thoughts, inspiration and ideas about the future of the industry. With tips from design maven and founder of House & Home Magazine, Lynda Reeves and editor-in-chief, Beth Hitchcock, will be speaking with House & Home Senior Design Editor Joel Bray on how to get today’s best looks. Designers Tommy Smythe and Darcie Watson will discuss their signature styles and key design moves for what is sure to be the perfect finale to an unforgettable weekend.
