Interior Design Show (IDS17) continues to establish itself as North America’s leading design conference with the anticipated announcement of three leading-edge installations. Direct from the hands of some of the globe’s most prolific creators, Jaime Hayon, Nika Zupanc and PARTISANS, each project will be unveiled to the public during the four-day event that has transformed the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for 19 years running.
One of Time Magazine’s 100 most relevant creators, Wallpaper magazine’s Breakthrough Creator and two-time winner of Elle Décor’s International Award, Jaime Hayon will present his collaboration with leading quartz manufacturer and recently named to Dezeen’s Top 100 Design Brands, Caesarstone, at IDS17. Titled “Stone Age Folk”, Hayon has created a whimsical universe inspired by the natural and mythical worlds, Fauna and folklore. As the essential component in his project, over 48 Caesarstone colours will be synthesized into a kaleidoscopic installation - blending fantasy with his signature artisan skill set. Since launching his design house in 2003, Hayon’s work has attracted the interest of acclaimed institutions including Mak Vienna, London’s Design Museum, Centre Pompidou and Basel Art Fair, displaying the vastness of his talent that crosses all genres of creativity.
Described as “punk elegance” by Elle USA and the “real deal” by The Wall Street Journal, Nika Zupanc aims to bring to life the spontaneous, diverse voices of design that are often smoldered by rationality. Among her collaborations with distinguished clients such as, Francfranc, Queeboo and Nodus, is her notable ICFF Editors award for her collection in partnership with British brand, Sé. Athletically inspired and infused with elements of the Olympics, the remarkable range of furniture perfectly mirrors her approach to modern culture and technological innovation. Presented by South Hill Home, Nika Zupanc for Sé will be displayed at IDS17 through an installation that’s sure to attest to why she remains one of Milan Design Week’s most anticipated designers year after year. You won’t want to miss Zupanc as she takes the stage on January 20th to share her iconic vision.
Voted “Best Emerging Designer” by Canada’s Design Exchange and “Best Emerging Practice” by the Ontario Association of Architects, PARTISANS is an intrepid Toronto-based studio poised to change the architecture and design landscape. To celebrate the launch of Gweilo, their custom line of sculptural lights in collaboration with LightForm, the firm will be debuting the PARTISANS FACTORY at IDS17. Equal parts fabrication warehouse, artist studio and lounge party, the PARTISANS FACTORY installation is where making and doing meets play and performance. The LAMP award-winning light, which manipulates the dynamic movement of luminosity itself to architectural effect, will be hand-sculpted and made-to-order on site. Guests are also encouraged to luxuriate in a sitting room featuring special pieces by Le Corbusier and Frank Gehry, curated by Porch Modern.
All three of these iconic exhibits will be available for viewing at IDS17 from January 19-22. Stay tuned for more exciting news on International Guest of Honor David Adjaye’s exclusive installation for the Interior Design Show Toronto coming soon.
