On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Atelier RZLBD releases an online shop, a manifesto, and three short documentaries to consolidate—and to facilitate public access to—the intellectual and philosophical roots of its practice. The three symbolic publications mark the atelier’s transition into an even more polemic position within the discipline of architecture, in which it continues to pursue architecture as vocation.
RZLBD shop
Over the past 10 years, Atelier RZLBD has shared its thoughts on architecture and its discipline through its in-house print publications—rzlbdPOST & rzlbdPAPER—featuring essays, drawings, artwork, etc. It is pleased to announce the long overdue launch of RZLBD shop, an archive and web store hosting all of its printed works, made available to the general public for the first time.
The Empty Room
Part aphorism part manifesto, The Empty Room (Actar, NY, 2020) is a collection of essays, poems, and quotes on space. While criticizing the mainstream, the author-architect suggests “the empty room” as the very essence of architecture, the spatial experience as its highest mandate. The book vividly portrays architecture as the poetry of space, and invites readers to renew their passion for Architecture (with a capital “A”).
Project X
Commemorating the past 10 years of the practice, Atelier RZLBD has revisited all of its built works, documented in three different scales in video format. The first video—the large scale—records the living moments of the atelier’s houses in their streets as of today, celebrating its works as the container of time and memory, and as positive pixels to the city. The second video—the small scale—meditates on the details of each house, which show the notion of order, axis, symmetry, and geometry, implicit in both the created works and the creator’s mind. The third video—the medium scale—features the one-point perspective of the interior photos of each house, which reveal certain spatial qualities that unify the portfolio of the atelier.
About RZLBD
Atelier RZLBD is a boutique art & architecture practice based in Toronto, founded by RZLBD; un homme à tout faire whose répertoire includes making arts, crafting objects, designing buildings, curating installations, and publishing a zine called rzlbdPOST.
The practice is not just an ordinary service operation, but rather more like a positive virus that contributes, communicates, challenges, and adapts itself to the needs of each project and its context. From a 17mm wedding ring, to a 56km long housing proposal, the portfolio has been distinguished with numerous accolades; exhibited in many venues; and celebrated in more than 100 print publications.

The exhibition was arranged by Harbourfront Centre, an innovative non-for-profit cultural organization in Toronto. Along with designing an installation for the show, RZLBD dedicated an issue of the POST to the theme Big Enough? This issue revisits and questions the concept of living space through a different approach. You may call it an infographic!
