The Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) is proud to present an exceptional report of the Papier14 Art Fair, held from April 24 to 27 in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles. The 7th edition of the fair culminated after three days of excitement, reaffirming its importance on the national contemporary art scene. Gathering under its elegant marquee 44 leading Canadian art galleries, Papier14 offered visitors a unique experience at the fair as well as off-site, through a series of talks, guided tours and four exterior exhibitions as well as satellite activities across the city.
Unparalleled attendance
At the closing of the fair, on Sunday, April 27, over 17,500 people had visited Papier14, or 6,500 more visitors than in 2013. This is an amazing leap, considering the usual increase of about 1,000 visitors per year. This record attendance reflects the event’s growing success and confirms the increasing appeal of contemporary art and works on paper.
Consistently growing sales
With sales totalling $ 850,000, a 21% increase compared to last year, Paper reaffirms its role as a drive in the contemporary Canadian art market. AGAC considers that this result will increase by 20% over the next few weeks. Significant purchases were made by the Collection Loto-Québec, the Collection Hydro-Québec, Tourisme Montréal, collection du Cirque du Soleil, collection Desjardins d'œuvres d'art, and Senvest Collection.
Invaluable partners and collaborators
AGAC wishes to underline the major contribution of its presenting partner, National Bank Private Wealth 1859. The Papier Fair, original and innovative, has established itself as a key event claims Mr. Éric Bujold, President and CEO. The event contributes to the vitality of our visual arts community and reinforces its reputation on the national stage. National Bank Private Wealth 1859 is proud to take part in the realization of this inspiring event, which celebrates creativity through art on paper.
We sincerely thank Papier14’s patron, Mr. Alexandre Taillefer, for his generosity and dedication for the past two years. Our gratitude also goes to Karine Vanasse, spokesperson of Papier14, who gave her voice to the event with great eloquence and enthusiasm.
