Montreal, Canada, 2010-10-03 - Until October 17, the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Maison de la culture will be presenting Le photographe comme constructeur d'espaces-lumières, an exhibition of photographs by Marc Cramer. This exhibition of architectural and landscape photos by Marc Cramer reveals an esthetic that emphasizes the constructive aspect of the image, in keeping with the constructivist and “New Vision” approaches, while stressing its spatio-luminous dimensions. The digitally processed image creates a meditative, fictional effect, and distinguishes these photos from the tradition of simply capturing and recording reality. The difference in the media can be seen by comparing the photographs presented in a “print room” with the digital prints projected on screens in this exhibition. Lastly, the way the pieces are integrated into the exhibition space, thanks to a customized design adapted to the surroundings, gives the work a specific orientation and guides visitors as they view the work. Marc Cramer was born in France and began his career in Europe with a number of acclaimed exhibitions. It was in Quebec, however, where he settled in the mid-1970s, that his career truly took off. He has received a number of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Mr. Cramer has taken part in many group and individual photography and furniture shows, and his photos appear regularly in architecture and design magazines in Canada, the United States and Europe. He is one of the leading figures in architectural photography in Canada. He teaches photography at the Université de Montréal.
