The International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) Grants Montréal their 2017 Congress
Mission Design
On the occasion of their 56th World Congress, which is currently taking place in Gothenburg, the IFHP formalized the allocation of its congress to Montréal in 2017 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Mission Design and the IFHP. Alain Dufour, Executive Director of Mission Design and Flemming Borreskov, President of the IFHP were present to sign the agreement, witnessed by Helen Fotopulos, Executive Committee Member of the City of Montréal, responsible for Culture, Heritage, Design and the Status of Women and Robert Chicoine, immediate past-president of the Québec Order of Urban Planners (Ordre des Urbanistes du Québec).
Towards an International Design Summit in 2017
The IFHP congress is the second to be accorded to Montréal (after the International Federation of Landscape Architects - IFLA) and will be one of several that Mission Design wishes to draw to the World Summit and Congress, Architecture + Design + Planning in 2017. This major multidisciplinary event, which will take place on the 50th Anniversary of Expo 67, the 375th of Montréal and the 150th of Canada, is expected to attract thousands of design, architecture and planning professionals to Montréal.
"We are pleased to have signed this agreement with the IFHP, it is one more important step in the building of this major international event for 2017. This agreement is the result of a long process with the IFHP and our partners Tourism Montréal, the Palais des Congrès de Montréal, Montréal International, with the crucial support of the Québec Government and the City of Montréal," affirms Alain Dufour.
"I applaud the choice of the IFHP. Urban planning and design are critical to Montréal’s growth as a UNESCO City of Design. In addition, the World Summit and Congress project for 2017, steered by Mission Design and its partners, is an excellent opportunity for Montréal, an International Cultural Metropolis where design is intrinsic to its growth," adds Helen Fotopulos.
