Once again, FIFA offers quality films on the theme of architecture. Over the years, this category has become one of the most sought after of the Festival.

Fagus - Walter Gropius and the Factory for Modernity, byNiels-Christian Bolbrinker, an example of a complex of 10 buildings still in operation reflecting the beginnings of modern architecture and industrial design. Fascination Gratte-ciel - L’Étoile de Sendling, Munich, by Joachim Haupt and Sabine Pollmeier, traces the history of this exceptional building. On March 22, 2012, the new head office of the German automobile club ADAC was inaugurated in Sendling, a neighbourhood located near Munich’s historic centre. Architects at Berlin-based Sauerbruch Hutton, one of Germany’s most innovative architectural firms, designed this 93-metre tower and its star-shaped base. Jean Nouvel and the Tormented Concerthouse, by Jon Adelsten, attempts to provide a better understanding of the artistic vision and personality of French architect Jean Nouvel and the compromises he had to make in designing the Danish Broadcasting Corporation headquarters in Copenhagen. The result, however, is striking: a huge translucent blue box shimmering in the night. Le Défi des bâtisseurs – La Cathédrale de Strasbourg, by Marc Jampolsky. The film features re-enactments, period documents, computer-generated images and conversations with historians and specialists. It reveals the construction secrets behind this architectural feat, the lives of its master craftsmen, social organization on the worksite, awareness of the project across Europe, and the political and religious context in which it was built. With Le Rolex Learning Center, by Juliette Garcias, we discover the unique characteristics of this wave of concrete and glass, which has inspired many metaphors. Built in 2010 by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA agency, this weightless volume of more than 20,000 m2 does not have a single wall. Tadao Ando, l’architecte du vide et de l’infini, by Mathias Frick, is a tribute to the artist. Filmed in Osaka and Italy, where he is idolized, the “Master of Minimalism” discusses the various buildings he has designed. Winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize and other prestigious awards, he creates serene and spare interiors, a successful synthesis of traditional Japanese design and modernism. The New Rijksmuseum 4, byOeke Hoogendijk, chosen for the FIFA benefit evening, provides an overview of the work done during the years of demolition and restoration, as well as the financial and political debate surrounding the project, which cost 375 million euros. Everything Must Change – Piet Zwart, by Sherman De Jesus, portrays one of the twentieth century’s most influential typographers. His versatility and his influence on present-day designers prompted the Association of Dutch Designers to name him “Designer of the Century” in 2000. Table E1027 d'Eileen Gray, by Danielle Schirman, recalls the turning point in the career of the young Irish aristocrat Eileen Gray.She attracted attention for her luxurious lacquer technique from 1913 onward, and turned to architecture in the early 1920s, designing E1027, a villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, as well as all of its interiors.
