From Salzburg to Cape Town: SKREINSTUDIOS Redefines Sustainable Architecture
SKREINSTUDIOS SL
Award-winning architectural studio blends innovation, context, and climate-conscious design across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
SKREINSTUDIOS is an internationally recognized architectural firm committed to sustainable design, innovation, and cultural integration. Based in Madrid, the studio has gained acclaim for its forward-thinking approach, with projects spanning multiple sectors and continents.
From its inception, SKREINSTUDIOS has prioritized using local materials, energy-efficient systems, and design strategies that minimize environmental impact. This attention to detail was recognized with the NAN Award for Best Hotel Design 2024 for the Umoya Boutique Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa - an eco-conscious hospitality project that harmonizes with its natural surroundings while implementing cutting-edge passive design strategies. And, more recently, the same building was named Popular Choice Winner in the Architizer A+Awards 2025 for Best Sustainable Hospitality Building.
Studio structure
At SKREINSTUDIOS, collaboration is at the core of its philosophy. Their multidisciplinary team, composed of architects, engineers, and sustainability experts, ensures an integrated design process that considers every aspect of a project from concept to completion. SKREINSTUDIOS believes that truly innovative solutions emerge when different perspectives and disciplines converge.
Design approach
The studio's approach is deeply rooted in context—both physical and cultural. Whether designing in Europe, Africa, or beyond, they engage with local communities and specialists to develop architectural solutions that respect and enhance their environment. Their work balances aesthetic ambition with environmental responsibility, integrating passive strategies, renewable energy systems, and circular economy principles.
Looking forward
As SKREINSTUDIOS continues to grow, their focus remains on pushing the boundaries of resilient architecture. The studio is currently expanding its expertise in modular timber construction and exploring prefabrication techniques to further reduce carbon footprints, while enhancing efficiency, flexibility, and cutting-edge design.
With an award-winning portfolio and an unwavering commitment to responsible design, SKREINSTUDIOS is shaping the future of architecture—one sustainable project at a time.
