Openbook named Best Commercial Firm at the Architizer A+Awards 2026
Openbook
The Lisbon-based multidisciplinary group receives the distinction for the second consecutive year, this time as Jury Winner
Openbook, a Portuguese multidisciplinary group working across architecture, interior design, real estate, design and wayfinding, engineering, project delivery, development and investment brokerage, has been named Best Commercial Firm at the Architizer A+Awards 2026, receiving the Jury Winner distinction. This is the second consecutive year the Lisbon-based group has been recognised in this category. The winners were announced by Architizer, the New York-based platform behind the programme, in June 2026.
A firm category, not a project category
Unlike project-based awards, the Best Commercial Firm category evaluates a practice as a whole: its portfolio, working methods and capacity to deliver commercial architecture consistently across different scales and contexts. The Jury Winner distinction results from an assessment by an international panel of industry professionals, independent from the programme's public vote.
According to Architizer, the A+Awards are the industry's largest and most international awards programme, with this year's honorees comprising over 200 firms from more than 80 countries.
A multidisciplinary way of working
Founded in Lisbon in 2007, Openbook brings together companies dedicated to architecture, interior design, design and wayfinding, engineering, real estate, development, investment brokerage and project delivery services. This integrated structure allows the group to follow projects from strategic definition to built result, working with national and international clients across office, retail, hospitality, healthcare, residential and mixed-use sectors.
Recent work by the group includes the BNP Paribas Lisbon Hub, the Mutual Building in Porto, a House in Quinta da Marinha, a high-end residence in Vietnam, and the headquarters for Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Miniclip, VdA Vieira de Almeida, GALP, PagerDuty, and KPMG.
"Receiving this distinction for the second consecutive year is a very meaningful recognition for our teams and for the work we have been developing," says Paulo Jervell, Partner at Openbook Group. "In an extremely competitive international context, this award confirms that the quality, innovation and excellence we bring to each project continue to be recognised by the highest standards of the industry. It is also a sign of the capacity of architecture and design produced in Portugal to compete at the highest level."
Continuity of recognition
The 2026 distinction follows the group's recognition in the same category in 2025. In recent years, Openbook's work has also been distinguished at the Architecture MasterPrize and the Prémio Nacional do Imobiliário in Portugal.
