The Form of Form - Fourth Edition of Lisbon Architecture Triennale
Lisbon Architecture Triennale
The Form of Form, curated by André Tavares and the late Diogo Seixas Lopes, takes place in Lisbon from 5 October to 11 December 2016. The programme includes 4 main exhibitions, 7 Satellites, 3 Awards, 1 Competition, 1 International Conference, 14 Associated Projects, and much more.
As the title suggests, form itself will be a main object of exploration, understood both in its role as a universal means of communication within and outside the discipline as well as in its power to radically influence the functioning and the development of cities.
The Form of Fom will investigate interactions and struggles that materialize in the place where architecture is materially built, drawing attention to the role of technologies and rhetoric on the form architecture takes and on the impact the built environment is able to have on society and in people’s lives.
Between the participants, renowned practitioners coming from architecture, design and the visual arts contribute to a multidisciplinary and critical discourse.
Special highlights in the Form of Form programme will be the opening and the closing week, with several invited guests, as well as the Talk, Talk, Talk, an international conference that will take place from 17 to 19 November.
Lisbon Architecture Triennale
The Lisbon Architecture Triennale is a non-profitassociation whose mission is to examine, foster and
promote architectural thinking and practice. In addition to its main forum every three years, the Triennale also organizes conferences and events all year round, one if them is the Open House Lisboa, an event that for one weekend each year opens the doors of the best architecture in the city.
In 2010, an invitation was made to architects André Tavares and Diogo Seixas Lopes to share the chief
curatorship of this edition, something with no precedent in the Lisbon Triennale’s history. From Porto and Lisbon respectively, this curator duo presents a solid career grounded in the multiplicity of practices, both in build work as in the production of architectural theory an criticism. In February of this year, Diogo Seixas Lope passed away, the preparation work for the Triennale was already well consolidated. The best homage the Triennale could do to him was to accomplish the work he conceived and, in that sense, conclude the project as it was designed.
