Have you ever wondered who the future lighting designers are? On Thursday, November 12, L A M P will kick off its third annual international lighting design competition in Vancouver, Canada celebrating the best in established, emerging and student designers from around the globe. The event runs from Nov. 12-15.
L A M P aims to introduce a broader audience to lighting design while promoting and connecting emerging talent to new markets. This year’s top three first place winners in each category are:
Established - ‘Gweilo’ by Alex Josephson Toronto, ON, Canada
Emerging - ‘Eclipse’ by Annie Tung Toronto, ON, Canada
Student - ‘Diverge’ by Christina Wilkinson & Danna Lei Toronto, ON, Canada
Opening night runs from 6 p.m. to midnight at Jan Kath Studio, 505 Railway Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6A 1A7, and tickets must be purchased in advance through www.welovelamp.ca. The exhibit will be open by donation from November 13-15.
This year’s exhibit will feature 20 original jury-selected lighting entries, including this year’s lighting winners. L A M P is also excited to present ‘Sound Clouds’, an art installation by Vancouver designer and featured guest Alex Beim from Tangible Interactions.
L A M P received 90 submissions worldwide, from 48 cities and 21 countries. This year’s judges made their decisions based on a set evaluation ranging from aesthetics, marketability, innovation, and unique interpretation of this year’s theme: Crystallize. The judges included: Tom Dixon, Michael Anastassiades, Nancy Bendtsen (Inform Interiors), Omer Arbel (Bocci Design), John Patkau (Patkau Architects), Falken Reynolds (Chad Falkenberg, Kelly Reynolds), and the team from ANDLIGHT (Lukas Peet, Caine Heintzman and Matt Davis).
About - L A M P is run by Vancouver founders Annika Hagen and Nicole Fox. L A M P allows designers, architects, and those with an appreciation for design to be part of a growing must-see exhibition that connects the local community with dynamic design. Now in its third year, L A M P looks forward to growing into an internationally recognizable institution for creative minds to showcase their designs.
