Odea Montreal, a cultural diversity project launched in 2021, has been officially inaugurated. The project is a collaboration between CREECO, the parent company of Eeyou Eenou Realty Properties Inc (EERP), Cogir Immobilier, and several key players, including Lemay, world-renowned Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal, and ACT for the interior design. Located between Old Montreal and Griffintown, on a site owned by the James Bay Crees since 1995, Odea Montreal symbolizes the Crees' commitment to community development and the revitalization of this iconic neighborhood. Currently, 156 of the 245 residential units are occupied, leaving 89 rental units and 45 units still available for sale.
Odea Montréal is located at the gateway to Montreal, at the crossroads of Griffintown, Old Montreal, and the Cité du Multimédia. With its 26 floors of 367 rental apartments, 68 condominiums, and office and retail space, Odea Montréal attracts a diverse population, from students to retirees to young professionals.
“Odea Montreal stands as a testament to the vision and strength of our people. As we continue to expand our presence in key economic sectors, this project represents a pivotal achievement in our ongoing efforts to create lasting value for our communities. It is not just a building; it is a symbol of our commitment to sustainable growth, cultural pride, and the economic empowerment of the Cree Nation," said Derrick Neeposh, President of the Cree Regional Economic Enterprises Company (CREECO). "Our partnership with Cogir Immobilier in bringing this vision to life marks a new chapter in our journey toward self-sufficiency and resilience."
“Odea Montreal is more than just a real estate project; it is a tangible expression of our collective vision and our commitment to building a prosperous future for our nation and beyond," added Mandy Gull-Masty, Grand Chief of the Cree Nation Government. "This project embodies our history, our resilience, and our desire to see our culture thrive in an urban environment."
Built on land belonging to the Cree community, the complex is a true ode to the boreal forest in the heart of Old Montreal. The Odea Montréal complex integrates various architectural elements that evoke stone, wood, greenery, nature, and light, creating a deep connection with the natural environment.
The name “Odea” is inspired by the Cree word “ode”, meaning canoe, a symbol subtly and elegantly integrated into the building's architecture. The white façade, made of pre-stressed concrete, reflects purity and solidity, while the interior courtyard features finishes reminiscent of tree hues, as if observing a split log, revealing its bark and heart.
This architectural masterpiece was designed by Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal, in collaboration with the Lemay firm. Residents of the complex enjoy bold, functional common spaces, including an artist's studio in partnership with the Darling Foundry art complex. There are also lush green spaces, two rooftop pools, and a sky lounge offering breathtaking views of the city.
“We are proud and honored to work with the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee on a project that will become one of Montreal's cultural and architectural landmarks," said Mathieu Duguay, President and CEO of Cogir Immobilier. "We believe that Odea Montreal will be emblematic in many ways.”
