Fabelta, fenestration systems

Terrebonne, Canada, 2023-03-17 -

In collaboration with the architectural firm Atelier L’Abri, Fabelta is proud to collaborate and manufacture the fenestration systems for the Corporation du Parc du Poisson Blanc’s cabins since 2020. For this first unique accommodation lodging, the project carries on with the addition of one cabin per year up until 2025. A desire on always maintaining a unique experience for each cabin is what makes this project so interesting.

Fabelta's involvment

As park visitors seek the outdoors, the living spaces of these unconventional cabins are closely connected with the exterior. The Allure window series used in this project is characterized by its thin frame allowing a maximum of light to flood the space. To respect the ecotourism mission of the park, the raw materials and local products are promoted in all components of this project. Aluminum is therefore a consistent choice, thanks to its durable nature, which is crucial for rentals. Opting for fenestration products that can allow large dimensions while preserving a high energy performance is therefore a wise choice for this type of accommodation.

The Poisson Blanc Regional Park

The Poisson Blanc Regional Park defines itself as a unique outdoor destination built around a reservoir of the same name. Being a non-profit organization with ecotourism purposes, its mission is clear: to showcase its territory and contribute to the economic development of its region. This specific territory offers a wide range of accommodations and complementary activities that are developed around its characteristics. These include the notorious rustic campsites on the islands, camping by the mountain, cabins, fishing, hiking, non-motorized watercraft rentals and even rock climbing. The lodging in cabins provides an extra touch of comfort, while remaining in a rustic environment.

Architecture and design

The architects from Atelier l’Abri architectural firm that were hired to conceive the project are in fact park regulars. Their contribution has therefore been most significant since they have truly experienced the organization’s mission. The intentions behind the design of the buildings were to make something without excess, but organic, ergonomic, and user-friendly. More minimal than a full-sized cabin, the living spaces are reduced to the essentials.

Materials

The organization ecotourism mission remains consistent in the project’s development. Local purchases are prioritized in the process and the materials chosen are in sync with the location. For example, the ceramics of the Pic-Flamboyant recalls the rocks that can be seen all around the reservoir. Oriented to blend with the environment, the cabins respect their surroundings. The untreated wood ages with time and blends in the natural habitat. Our footprint is minimized thanks to the solar energy, the heating provided by a wood-burning stove and the windows having high energetic performances.

Sustainability being one of the top priorities in the project, especially because of its rental purposes, we can find stainless steel countertops and large aluminum windows. The strategic positioning of the openings gives the illusion of wider spaces and through the largest window, we can observe the visitors most desired view: the reservoir.
