Meridiane: the New Design from LATOxLATO Measures Time in Light and Shadow
LATOxLATO

The 06:45 tray features a series of arches that recall the porticoes surrounding many an Italian piazza: from Venice to Bologna, Turin to Mantua. A tall central element recalls the monolithic monuments of Imperial Rome. Glazed in 24k gold, platinum, or copper, this central piece plays a subtle game of perception: its supposed “shadow” is in fact a contrasting decoration included on the surface of the piece itself.

The bowl 12:30 features a central obelisk, casting a false shadow onto its curved inner surface. An illusion. A game that transforms this simple object into an elegant and unconventional design accessory.

The essential Italian piazza returns in the rectangular tray 19:00, interpreted as a wide open space with a central vertical element, which can be read as an obelisk, a fountain, or a sculpture. All frequent sights in the most famous Italian town squares. The upright element has a contemporary feel, and the false shadow drawn in a contrasting color on the glazed surface of the tray emphasizes the piece’s originality.
