PUBLIC awarded $50,000 Professional Prix de Rome to tackle public space in Vancouver
PUBLIC

PUBLIC, a Vancouver design and architecture firm, was awarded the 2015 Professional Prix De Rome in Architecture by the Canada Council for the Arts. This $50,000 prize enables the firm's mission to improve Vancouver's public realm by researching and traveling to global epicentres of exemplary public space making. Photographs and plans of typical streets in (left to right) Singapore, Tokyo, Vancouver, and Rotterdam illustrate one of the research techniques the PUBLIC team will employ:  examining daily public life unfolding on routine streets. PUBLIC will seek out the elements that facilitate successful public spaces, and use them as a means to shift the momentum locally.
