GKC Architecture & Design marks its 65th anniversary
GKC Architecture & Design announces a new era with the appointment of three emeritus partners, making way for Fernando Lozano and his team of nine partners to realize the firm's vision for growth.
Over the past 65 years, the firm has built a solid reputation in the industrial and commercial landscape through iconic projects such as the Simons Distribution Centre in Quebec City, the Metro Distribution Centre in Terrebonne, and major facilities for Walmart, Sobeys, McKesson, Molson Coors, RONA, Giant Tiger, and Dilawri dealerships across Canada. With this change, the firm is entering a phase of strategic repositioning marked by a renewed governance structure and the strengthening of its expertise across North America.
This announcement represents a pivotal moment for GKC: three of the firm's senior partners, Richard Kaplin, Jerry Coviensky, and Normand Côté, are becoming emeritus partners after shaping GKC's DNA for several decades. They are beginning a new chapter in their careers by stepping down from GKC's executive team, while continuing to act as strategic advisors to ensure a smooth transition of their leadership and expertise.
A vision driven by unifying leadership
This governance shift highlights the transition that has taken shape over the past two years:
The appointment of nine partners to support Fernando Lozano in leading the firm: Milyausha Gabdrakhmanova, Yulia Korobkova, Alper Caglar, Erdal Biberoglu, Marie-Anne Legault, Louis-Philippe Frappier, Andrei Filip, Christopher Blackadder, and Eve Morin.
The firm’s expansion into Vancouver and Los Angeles, complementing its existing offices in Toronto and Montreal, reflects its North American ambition, focused on resilience and anticipating major challenges within the sectors it serves.

A pioneer in sustainable development, GKC has signed three of the first four LEED-certified industrial warehouses in Canada, and the first seven Zero Carbon-certified storage and distribution buildings in Quebec. It has 24 LEED buildings and nine carbon-neutral industrial buildings to its credit, consolidating its leadership in the integration of solutions focused on carbon neutrality, energy efficiency, and environmental resilience.
