The kitchen is outfitted with white oak millwork,complemented by stone countertops and amatching backsplash. A long island with a barsink and generous seating subtly delineatesthe space, while a continuous western hemlockceiling overhead softens acoustics and bringswarmth and texture to the interior.

The two levels of the cottage are offsetto create two spacious outdoor decks,integrated into the building’s design. Thelower deck, shaded beneath the projectingupper floor and nestled against a bedrockoutcropping, stays cool in summer thanksto the cooling effect of the stone and crossbreezes off the lake.

The upper deck, adjacent to the living room,provides sweeping views of the forest andwater on three sides. It features retractablescreens for protection from bugs, and anoutdoor wood-burning fireplace that echoesthe hearth inside, extending enjoyment ofthe outdoors into the colder months.

As seen from the north over the septic field, the rear facade presents a more closed expression, while the slender bridge appears to float—carrying visitors from the parking area directly into the cottage’s elevated living level.
