Festival of Lively Architectures 2013
Association Champ Libre - Festival des Architectures Vives (FAV)
On the occasion of the 8th Festival of the lively Architectures Montpellier, Champ Libre association sends a call for applications to realize 10 interventions.
FESTIVAL PRESENTATION
The Lively Architecture Festival wish answer to evolution of architectural practice which, joining all the domains related to its culture, does not any more hesitate to assert itself in its realizations. The Lively Architectures are short-lived and evolutionary by nature; they are every time punctual, registered in a short temporality and thoughts for a specific place.
Such an increased reality, they add, transform, reveal a forgotten space because they are invisible or in the contrary too much seen. Respectful of environment, they change it in an inhabited environment where the past, the present to see even the future make only one. The Lively architectures create an environment where the imagination of each takes place. So, they have the sense of humor, as much as the humility.
Refusing the unchanging, during the festival they question our usual environment. Addressing to a wide public, they proud a sensory adventure, offer a moved glance. They position them self as a revelator. The Lively architectures are object of desire, envy and simply wish to find the sense of the pleasure of the place, the city, to offer the sensitive and the tactile, to reposition the Man in the heart of the architecture.
For this 8th edition of the Festival of the Lively Architectures in Montpellier, chosen places are in adequacy with this historic city. One of its wealth is the presence in the heart of the city of numerous town houses. Today, Montpellier has got more than seventy. Number of these privates town houses and inner courtyards, are not open to the public. So, festival objective is double. On one hand open to the inhabitants these symbolic sites, make them discover hidden places from their own city. On the other hand, thanks to the intervention of the teams of creators presenting a specific work to every place, it is a question of revealing an intimate relationship between contemporary architecture and patrimonial site.
In their history the courtyards , half-private and half public spaces, have had very diverse functions as place of representation, distribution welcome, but today the courtyard remain uninhabited. Divested of any function, they appear as simple spaces crossed to join a private place. Forgotten, because inaccessible, or forgotten because inappropriate, these courtyard disappear little by little from a common knowledge, even from a collective imagination. They become real forgotten spaces and nevertheless possess an appropriate specificity, playing between shadow and light, offering a possibility of glorifying these places with few things. So, the contemporary architecture by game will reveal and will wake up sleepy sites.
THEMATIC FAV 2013 – 8th Edition in Montpellier
Theme of the Festival 2013: Memory
" MEMORY" (noun) It was erased from his memory. To remember. To retain in the memory or forget. An image, idea, representation that the memory retains. To evoke old and collective memories.
Dictionary definition from the 8th edition of the Académie Française
Memory is the act of remembering an event, place, person and smell of a time that we may have forgotten. Souvenir is also a memory. This is the role of the Festival of Lively Architecture, to open up new spaces, offer new sensations, allow forgotten places to come back to life, and now to reveal within these places filled with memories, an opportunity to share them. These private mansions will not only become the settings of a contemporary architecture, however ephemeral it may be. They will also become spaces of dialogue through the memories, evoked, suggested, revealed, augmented and even anticipated. Memory will be reciprocated, one memory offering itself to the other and vice versa.
"Memory" will be the central theme of the 8th edition of the FAV, which this year will bring out emotions anchored in the visitors' personal or collective memories. It will also be a time of revelation towards a prospective dimension based on the built surroundings. This edition hopes to emotionally move the visitor who will take pleasure in discovering and rediscovering amazing buildings and spaces. By taking a walk around the old town of Montpellier each visitor will move from Memory to Memory.
