The Lively Architectures’s Festival 2012
Association Champ Libre - Festival des Architectures Vives (FAV)
The seventh edition of the festival will be held in June 2012, during 5 days, on June 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th, 2012 in Montpellier.
This path binds mansions and inner courtyards, which mainly deprived are not visible for the visitors. Two objectives are fixed. On one hand, open to the visitors, the time of the festival these symbolic sites. On the other hand, thanks to the intervention of the creators teams present a specific work to every place and reveal an intimate relation between contemporary architecture and patrimonial site. Of a surprising urban dimension, mansions propose places in the diverse characteristics and open the field to quite so rich and varied explorations. This study proposes about ten sites where can develop the lively architectures according to the theme of « The Surprise » retained for this 7th edition of the Festival.
These short-lived realizations of small scale, designed in a simple and evident way will take up places the time of the festival. Without leaving of track physical, the Festival tries to mark the spirits and to hire a global reflection on the architecture and its development in an existing urban context; it takes place in onset and in preview of a planned transfer. The Festival proposes an opened and dynamic image of the current architecture. It is an event organized by architects, with professionals of the urban question, for a wide public, the uninitiated in the most warned. It takes place in the city and stages prototypes, animations, thematic visits or still architectural experiences with various scales. The seventh edition of the festival will be held in June 2012, during 5 days, on June 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th, 2012 in Montpellier. An inauguration will take place on June 12th in the evening. The Lively Architectures’Festival invites teams composed by architects but also landscape architects, town planners and artists to realize interventions in situ, freely designed.
The PAVILION of Festival des Architectures Vives
For the 2011’s edition, we set up for the first time a welcome pavilion of the FAV. This pavillon allow the public to get informations on the festival, the schedule and also to be able to buy the books of the previous editions. It is also the point of departure of the Festival’s path. Because of its placed in the heart of the city of Montpellier, between the main streets, the pavilion offers an important visibility for the setting-up of the festival.
This project was able to be born thanks to a partnership of company realized with the company Eco-emballage then with the companies Adelphe, Construire Acier, Verre Avenir, KDI, Pernod Ricard and Coca-Cola. It is also for it that we chose to position it in the courtyard of the Chamber of commerce and industry of Montpellier, in the heart at the same time of the city and the companies.
For year 2012, we wished to entrust the realization of the pavilion to the young collective of architects
" Atelier Vecteur " installed in Montpellier and which had also taken part in the competition in 2011.
The objective of the pavilion is identical:
- be the place of welcome and information,
- the meeting point and departure of the path as it is easily recognizable,
- make the link with the previous years in images and by the presentation of the books of
the FAV since 2006.
But it will also be:
- the place of the vote of the public for the best installation,
- the place of the handing of the Jury’s and public’s prize.
Theme of the Festival 2012: Surprise
«SURPRISE” n.f. Action by which we surprise. Defend oneself from the surprise of senses, from the surprises of self-esteem. It also means Amazement, state of mind which is struck by something unexpected. I do not recover my surprise. Experience a sweet surprise. Arrange to someone a pleasant surprise. Go from surprise to surprise. It specially says about a Gift, an unexpected pleasure. To surprise someone. Definition of the French Academy, 8th Edition
The surprise call to mind the plurality’s notion. Plurality of senses, situations, mainly plurality of people. To make the surprise exist, it has to be several people or two at least, one for offer and the other to receive. So the surprise proposes an action staging by a desire to share and a will of opening toward somewhere, a stranger who astonishes or delights us. In 2012, the lively architectures will be real surprises supporting this necessary interaction, transforming a patrimonial architecture, motionless, static and unchanged to a dynamic space, fluid, ephemeral, evolutionary and creative space. That’s their role, to open up new space and new sensations, to allow forgotten places to reappear, also offering a sharing and pleasure space in the same time. So the patrimonial case won’t only be the receiver and the contemporary one, the supplier. The surprise will be mutual, giving and receiving both. The surprise will be definitely at the heart of the lively architectures’ new edition, which still has to astonish more and more spectators this year. Surprise them by the pleasure of discovery wonder places and situations. The unexpected will take place in order to occur a sweet experience to everyone. Through this town path, everyone would go from surprises to surprises.
