This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Festival des Architectures Vives in Montpellier. To mark this symbolic anniversary, the FAV is evolving its traditional format and presenting a distinctive edition focused on Transmission. In 2026, the festival will once again take over the courtyards of Montpellier’s private mansions, from June 9-14.
For this occasion, emblematic teams from previous editions are invited to take on a new role: that of mentors. This role represents a symbolic passing of the torch and a gesture of trust toward the new generation, while remaining rooted in a collective approach.
2026 Edition: Transmission and Julien Tuffery, patron of this anniversary edition
For the past two years, the Festival des Architectures Vives has been reflecting on the concept of patronage for its editions, with the clear intention of inviting figures from fields beyond architecture, yet who share common values of creation, transmission, and territorial engagement. This approach aims to broaden perspectives on architecture and foster dialogue with other disciplines.
For the 2026 edition, centered on the theme of “Transmission”, the choice has been made to invite Julien Tuffery, head of Atelier Tuffery, as the patron of this anniversary edition. An emblematic house of French textile craftsmanship, Atelier Tuffery is a family business deeply rooted in its territory, carrying a legacy of skills and gestures passed down from generation to generation.
Through his career, Julien Tuffery embodies a contemporary vision of craftsmanship, grounded in the valorization of manual work, technical mastery, sustainable practices, and respect for materials. This patronage symbolizes the close link between contemporary creation and the heritage of craftsmanship—at the very heart of the festival’s concerns. Like architecture, the work carried out by Atelier Tuffery is based on a long-term perspective, attention to quality, and the transmission of knowledge as a driver of both creativity and sustainability.
By choosing a patron from the fields of craftsmanship and the textile industry, the Festival des Architectures Vives reaffirms its commitment to cross-disciplinary dialogue, to highlighting local and national expertise, and to making transmission a cultural, territorial, and human catalyst.
The teams: diversity and balance
FAV 2026 will bring together a total of 40 architects from both the national and international scene, including 8 French teams and 5 international teams, reflecting the richness and diversity of the event.
Among the French teams, four are based in the Montpellier area, illustrating the festival’s strong local roots. Internationally, the selection includes teams from Quebec, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Japan, confirming the FAV’s openness and international reach.

The FAV Pop-Up Pavilion at the heart of Hôtel Saint-Côme
Among the 13 installations, a pavilion set within the grounds of Hôtel Saint-Côme holds a particularly special place. Conceived as a space for gathering and celebration, this pavilion embodies the spirit of the festival: open, accessible, and welcoming.
It will notably host a merchandise stand specially designed to mark this symbolic anniversary, offering visitors the opportunity to extend the FAV experience through exclusive items. A true point of convergence, this space invites the public to meet, exchange, and immerse themselves in the festival’s universe, while celebrating two decades of creation, sharing, and artistic innovation.
While not serving as an official starting point, it naturally encourages visitors to begin their exploration of the FAV from this central location at 32 Grand Rue Jean Moulin.
A structured environmental commitment
The Festival des Architectures Vives reaffirms its commitment to sustainability through the implementation of a rigorous environmental charter. In continued partnership with Mas Réemploi, the festival promotes the use of recycled materials and creative reuse in the design of installations.
Each team receives support to reduce its carbon footprint, with access to Mas Réemploi’s online catalogue to source materials. At the end of the festival, Mas Réemploi will collect materials from the installations to reintegrate them into the reuse cycle.
Mas Réemploi will also conduct a carbon assessment of the installations to evaluate their environmental impact, and an environmental award will recognize the most innovative approaches.
About the Festival des Architectures Vives
Since 2006, the Festival des Architectures Vives has offered the public an immersive exploration of Montpellier’s architectural treasures—its private mansions. By transforming little-known historic spaces through contemporary architectural installations, the festival fosters a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation. Each installation is created by teams of young architects.
