RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd (RSP), a global multidisciplinary architectural and engineering design group with over 65 years of experience building alongside Singapore, proudly received the Design Award at The Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Architectural Design Awards 2023. The esteemed award recognizes their exceptional work in collaboration with Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects, for Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Academic Building South. Better known as Gaia, the infrastructure is a groundbreaking six-storey Mass Engineered Timber (MET) masterpiece that spans approximately 220 meters in length.
Gaia – Asia's most expansive wooden edifice
Named after the Greek Earth Goddess, Gaia represents a bold marriage between Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects, and RSP, showcasing excellence in design of education environments and sustainable architectural expertise. The six-story construction serves as a hub for learning, research, and innovation – a place where NTU students, faculty, and staff connect and collaborate.
The SIA Architectural Design Awards 2023 recognizes the achievements of local architects in their pursuit of building excellence and innovation, and their invaluable contribution to broadening conversations about architecture within and beyond the discipline. The coveted Design Award accredited RSP for their ingenious architectural design, cutting-edge engineering, and unwavering commitment to sustainability when building Gaia.
