EVOQ Architecture Appoints Four New Associates

Montreal, Canada

EVOQ Architecture

Montreal, Canada, 2024-05-21 -

EVOQ Architecture proudly announces the appointment of four new associates to its management team: Emmanuelle Lauzier, Sayeh Jolan, Alexandre Jean-Bergeron, and Louis Babin-St-Jean. As architects and project managers, they bring invaluable expertise to two of EVOQ's studios: First Nations and Inuit Development, and Contemporary Design. As associates, they will continue to maintain and enrich EVOQ's culture and values.

"Exceptional collaborations give rise to projects that support and enrich communities," says EVOQ architect and director Sami Tannoury. "By proudly welcoming four new talents to its management team, EVOQ Architecture reaffirms its dedication to being a deeply invested collaborator for its partners.”

Emmanuelle Lauzier (OAQ, LEED Green Associate)
Motivated by the desire to create contextual and meaningful architecture, Emmanuelle joined the EVOQ team in 2017. As an architect and project manager, she has developed the expertise to realize projects in collaboration with and for Indigenous communities, while honing the necessary skills to navigate both the technical and logistical architectural challenges specific to northern environments.

Optimistic and driven, Emmanuelle is passionate about the unifying potential of architecture, both during the design and construction process, and after its completion. Emmanuelle's dedication to human-centered design fosters a collaborative work environment, promoting the meaningful exchange of knowledge.

"As an architect, and as an ally, it is a privilege and a responsibility to be able to contribute to the development of Indigenous communities and their cultural and climatic resilience through my work at EVOQ," she says. "This appointment will motivate my daily commitment and will encourage me to pursue the practice of architecture in a fashion that values both humility and collaboration among my colleagues, clients, and collaborators."

Since joining EVOQ, Emmanuelle has contributed to projects of various scales and programs, including several multi-family dwellings in Nunavut. She has also participated in the development of significant community facilities, promoting cultural exchange and traditional Indigenous sharing: the Eshikatiut Tshukuminu Innu-Natukuna Pavilion in Ekuanitshit, and the Labrador Innu Nation Cultural Facility in Sheshatshiu. A graduate of the Université de Montréal School of Architecture, Emmanuelle also holds a bachelor's degree in environmental design from the Université du Québec à Montréal and is a LEED Green Associate.

Sayeh Jolan (OAQ)

Sayeh has refined her analytical skills over her career to respond to the multifaceted demands of architectural projects. As a design architect and project manager, Sayeh's interest in the study of the human habitat in all its forms guides her approach to projects. She prioritizes close collaboration between all project stakeholders, putting the needs of the building’s occupants at the forefront of the overall design. Throughout her career, Sayeh has developed a diverse portfolio with considerable expertise in residential projects of all scales. She is well-versed in urban design and has contributed to multiple significant projects, including the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport.

Sayeh’s projects at EVOQ include real estate development and master planning mandates in Ottawa, multi-family residential projects in Montreal, and architectural competitions. She is also involved in the ongoing development of projects with Indigenous communities, such as the Projet Autochtone du Québec (PAQ).

"The values of heritage restoration and rehabilitation, and the importance of community and of urban integration are at the heart of my values and at the forefront of EVOQ’s," notes Sayeh. "The wide array of expertise at EVOQ allows for the realization of innovative, high-quality projects, and I hope to contribute to the continued development of the contemporary design studio and to the success of all our projects.”

Sayeh joined EVOQ in 2021 and holds a Master of Architecture from the Université de Montréal, and a bachelor's in environmental design from the Université du Québec à Montréal. With a background in the conservation of built heritage, she is committed to the legacy of the past and the traces that will be left for future generations. She also currently serves as Vice-President of the Board of Directors for the Cité-Jardin du Tricentenaire in Montreal.

Alexandre Jean-Bergeron (OAQ, LEED Green Associate)

Bringing over a decade of experience in the practice of architecture, Alexandre has found his place within the EVOQ team. He shares the same core values as the firm: excellence, ingenuity, creativity, and diligence. Through his leadership, commitment, and diverse skillset, he quickly made his mark at the firm by working on a range of projects, from public to private, such as the Chibougamau-Chapais Air Terminal Building, multi-family dwellings in Iqaluit, and the Fire Station in Wemotaci. At EVOQ, Alexandre continues to develop his architectural practice and expertise, which allows him to embrace a nuanced and sensitive approach to Indigenous and northern cultures, heritage, and sites.

"The essence of EVOQ's northern work lies both in its emphasis on a collaborative, meaningful, and inclusive creative approach, and in its mastery of construction techniques specific to the northern environments, says Alexandre. "I am excited to be able to contribute to the team's expertise, and to participate in the development of a company in which I recognize my values."

A graduate of Laval University's School of Architecture, Alexandre joined EVOQ in 2020 as an architect and project manager. Since then, he has actively contributed to the realization of numerous large-scale residential, commercial, and institutional projects for communities in Nunavut, Nunavik, and Quebec. As a LEED Green Associate, Alexandre is also committed to integrating sustainable development principles into his practice at the firm.

Louis Babin-St-Jean (OAQ, LEED Green Associate)

From conception to completion, Louis serves as both design architect and project manager, guiding his projects through every stage of construction. With the utmost attention to detail and commitment to his projects, Louis ensures that each one is meticulously conceived and executed. His thoughtfulness, diligence, and his recognition of the challenges faced by Indigenous communities plays a vital role in his projects and within his studio. He has recently contributed to several major community and airport projects, including the Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre in Kuujjuaq, and the Rouyn-Noranda Air Terminal.

Louis believes that architecture can and should play a crucial role in the fight against climate change. As a LEED Green Associate and the head of the Sustainable Architecture Committee at EVOQ, Louis strives to develop practices within the firm that will support the achievement of that goal.

"Each project is an opportunity to rethink the way we design and develop projects in collaboration with northern communities," emphasizes Louis. "This recognition from EVOQ’s directors will encourage me to pursue my research in a rich learning environment, and will help push me beyond my current limits."

Louis joined EVOQ in 2016 after obtaining a master's degree in architecture from the Université de Montréal. His final Master's project on homelessness and the inclusion of the Inuit community in Montreal solidified his interest in Inuit culture and the territory of Nunavik, and set the stage for the professional mission that he passionately pursues today.
