EVOQ Architecture Appoints Four New Directors

Montréal, Canada

EVOQ Architecture

Montréal, Canada, 2022-07-12 -

EVOQ Architecture is proud to announce the appointment of four new directors to its management team - Lena Buchinger, Carolyne Fontaine, Roxanne Gauthier, and Eric Stein. As architects and associates, they have contributed significantly to EVOQ’s development and have long been involved in the firm’s management. As directors and champions of EVOQ’s culture and values, they will ensure the continuity of the firm’s tradition of excellence.

"These four architects have made key contributions to the firm’s success and their appointment as directors reaffirms EVOQ’s lasting quality," said Alain Fournier, EVOQ’s Managing Partner. "Lena, Carolyne, Roxanne and Eric will continue to deliver quality projects, drawing on the collective expertise we have built over the years and anchored in the firm's core values and best practices."

Lena Buchinger (OAQ CAHP APT)

Lena specializes in heritage conservation and has been involved in a broad spectrum of projects. She is known for her comprehensive and holistic approach, founded in a detailed understanding of each building's history and construction systems, as well as a clear grasp of stakeholder concerns. She fosters trusting relationships with all stakeholders and is a source of knowledge and inspiration to her colleagues, empowering them to learn and grow.

She is actively involved in both the architectural and the built-heritage conservation communities. She has served on the Planning Advisory Committee (Comité consultatif d’urbanisme) for Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough since 2013 and has been active in the Association for Preservation Technologies (APT), including a term as Vice President in 2021, and Co-Chair of the Publications Committee.

"It is an honor to be able to play such an active role in EVOQ’s development and in the preservation and enhancement of our built heritage."

Lena joined EVOQ in 2006 after completing her master’s degree at McGill University's School of Architecture. Since then, Lena has contributed to the conservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of some of Canada's most iconic historic sites. She was named an associate in 2019.

Carolyne Fontaine (OAQ LEED AP)

Carolyne is known for her versatility and her keen analytical mind. She is as comfortable designing and presenting projects and concepts as she is managing them and overseeing their construction. She has always been driven to design architecture that is respectful of its context and of the environment. In this spirit, she seeks to foster dynamic collaboration in every project she leads and strives for the highest level of architectural quality. Carolyne sits on the board of the Ordre des architectes du Québec (OAQ) as well as Architecture without Borders Quebec, reflective of her commitment to her profession, peers, and community.

"This appointment is a great privilege that acknowledges and reinforces my commitment to my peers, to our partners and to a sustainable built environment."

A graduate in architecture from the University of Montreal (1996), Carolyne joined EVOQ as a project manager in 2009 and became an associate in 2017. Her portfolio includes several regional airport facilities, along with educational, cultural, scientific, and industrial infrastructure projects across Quebec and in Nunavut. Since 2019, she has coordinated EVOQ's Contemporary Team which specializes in the creation of cultural infrastructure and residential projects that express a bespoke architectural signature.

Roxanne Gauthier (OAQ, LEED GA.)

Roxanne has been working with First Nations and Inuit communities for most of her career. She is known for her positive leadership and for her superior planning and project management skills that have allowed her to advance key projects for the communities she works with and have contributed to EVOQ’s growth. Her technical skills, thoroughness and steadfast commitment to the projects entrusted to her are lauded by clients, colleagues, and partners alike.

Roxanne is a LEED® Green Associate and founded and leads EVOQ's Sustainable Development Committee. Its objective is to reduce the environmental impact of the firm's operations while supporting its growth and promoting an innovative and environmentally responsible professional practice.

"I am very enthusiastic to join EVOQ’s senior management team and to continue to support our firm’s development in tandem with our colleagues and our many partners."

Roxanne graduated with distinction from McGill University's School of Architecture in 2005 and joined the EVOQ team in 2006. She became an associate in 2017.

Eric Stein (OAQ PMP CAHP APT)

For the past two decades, Eric has played leading roles in numerous institutional, commercial, and residential projects as a project manager, designer, and site architect. He specializes in rehabilitation and heritage conservation. His extensive knowledge and meticulous attention to detail in the restoration of traditional metalwork, woodwork, and masonry, as well as his numerous collaborations with internationally renowned experts, have all contributed to his extensive portfolio of award-winning projects. His experience in the field of religious heritage is particularly valued at EVOQ.

"EVOQ's mission is very important to me, and I am honored for this opportunity to continue to contribute to it. For me, EVOQ is above all a team of passionate professionals of unquestionable integrity who welcomed me warmly over 20 years ago and taught me to approach heritage conservation methodically, respectfully and with great sensitivity."

A graduate of McGill University's School of Architecture (1991), Eric joined the EVOQ team in 2001 and was named an associate in 2009. A member of the CAHP Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021, Eric has participated in the evaluation of many modernist churches as a member of the Modern Religious Heritage Committee created by the MCCQ in 2017.
